Job Description Summary

The Horticulture Manager will develop and oversee all horticultural operations for installation, maintenance, landscape lighting, and improvement of landscaped areas throughout the Agua Caliente Casino properties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

• Working with the VP of Facilities, manage assigned operational functions within the department consistent with the strategic plan for the Agua Caliente Casinos.
• Directly manage all outside vendors and operators ensuring work activities are completed and meet standards defined by Agua Caliente Casinos
• Conducts daily walks of grounds around facility, (including walkways, entrances, and indoor areas), to identify areas for improvement, specifically beautification. Confirms irrigation is working correctly, and advises team of any problems.
• Working with outside vendors oversee plant health care for all plant material on property. Identify plant stress including pest & disease, common disorders, or water related.
• Continuously researches industry innovations and standards to ensure best and most water efficient irrigation systems are used, and industry-leading landscape techniques and designs are incorporated; makes recommendations for upgrades and design plans.
• Working with the property facilities directors, for landscape lighting upgrades.
• Perform after hours landscape and lighting inspections to ensure proper lighting coverage and operation.
• Maintain department cost control, budgeting, Inventory and purchasing.
• Provides excellent guest service to both guest and internal clients.
• Must adhere to all Tribal Ordinance, Regulations, and Agua Caliente Casinos System of Internal Controls, and Standard Operating Procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing issues and resolving conflicts.

Required Education and/or Experience

• At least eight years of experience in Ornamental Horticulture, Interior landscaping and exterior landscaping.
• Previous experience working in a large, luxury resort setting preferred.
• At least five years of management experience in a similar or related field.
• Construction knowledge and contract basics.
• Ability to effectively communicate in English.
• Polished appearance and demeanor.
• Excellent customer service skills.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to stand, move and work throughout the office area and properties, including walking up to 1 ½ mile, climbing stairs and sitting at a desk/work station for the duration of the shift. Must be able to work in a smoke-filled environment. Must be able to work in a “lighting subdued” environment for extended periods of time. Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions to include extreme heat and cold weather.

Typically, the individual will be housed in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but will escalate when located in the casino environment. Must be able to grasp, bend, lift and/or carry or otherwise move goods weighing a minimum of 25 lbs. on an intermittent basis, and sufficient dexterity of hand in order to use office equipment including, but not limited to: a computer keyboard, calculator, general office equipment and multi-line telephone.
