PRMO Established in 2001, Patient Revenue Management Organization (PRMO) is a fully integrated, centralized revenue cycle organization supporting all of Duke Health, including Duke University Hospital, Duke Regional Hospital, Duke Raleigh Hospital, the Private Diagnostic Clinic, and Duke Primary Care. The PRMO focuses on streamlining the revenue cycle through enhanced management of scheduling, registration, coding, HIM operations, billing, collections, cash management, and customer service. Independently performsspecialized or advanced health inf ormation activities necessary to organize,maintain, and use electronic p atient health records. Activities requiredinclude research, analysis and compilation of findings into summarized reportsthat willbe shared with in and external to the Health Information Management Department.Position s at this level have high customer service, strong analytic and problems olving skills, require interpretation and explanation of policy and externalrequirements related to, privacy, release of information, positive p atientidentity, and other department and organization-wide functions. Sp ecific jobresponsibilities are based on the service unit within Health I nformationManagement assigned. Expert computer skills to navigate and qu ery multipleelectronic record systems.

Release of Inf ormation:regular interaction required with patients, attorneys, and gove rnmentalagencies, providers of health care, insurance companies, auditin g agencies, andresearchers. Detailed working knowledge and ability to ap ply HIPAA rules, NorthCarolina General Statutes, and other State and Fed eral laws regarding patientprivacy.


Dutie s andResponsibilities of this Level

Release of Inform ationFunctions:

Review request formedical records to identify dates of service, entity, provider and specificclinical documen ts requested. Works extensively in the electronic health recordand de-ce ntralized electronic databases to locate specific clinical documentsfor the purpose of fulfilling a request.

Reviews patient authorizations to validate HIPAA required elements and validate legal au thorityof requestor. Reviews NC andOut of State Subpoenas and Court Ord ers todetermine if valid and returns to requestor if deemed invalid.

Coordinates visitsfrom Health Plan Reviewers and Resear ch Monitors through provision ofelectronic medical records, assignment o f passwords and deactivates passwordsat conclusion of visit. Assists rev iewer in locating specific documents asneeded.

Revie ws requests forpatient amendments, locates disputed documents in the ele ctronic health recordand notifies provider of patient request for amendm ent. Tracks amendmentrequest to ensure patient is notified of outcome wi thin HIPAA requiredtimeframe.

Obtains ItemizedStatem ents from PRMO Self Pay and uses to calculate lien balances and generate Attorney Lien letter and forwards Itemized Statement to requestor as nee ded.

Obtains providerapproval to release psychiatric encounter records when requested by patient andseeks provider approval to release records for minor patients ages 12-17 toparent to comply with additional privacy protections under NC Statute andFederal Law.

Accompanies certifiedcopies or original health records to c ourt and location of scheduleddepositions when required. Testifies in court and depositions as to theauthenticity of health records containing P HI.


Performs other dutiesas assig ned, including Customer Service focus in training providers, internaland external customers on Chart Correction / Support Ticket resolution.



Minimum Qualifications


Education

High School Diploma required Associate's degree in a Health Information Management or related field preferred


Experience

Four years of experience in Health Care related field required, two of which must be in Health Information Management Or Candidates with an Associate's degree in HIM require two years of Health Care experience and one year of HIM specific experience or Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in HIM require two years of Health Care experience or Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Health Care require two years of HIM specific experience


Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

preferred: RHIT/RHIA/CHPS/CHDA
