TOWN OF PORT EDWARDS, WOOD COUNTY
JOB DESCRIPTION: HIGHWAY SUPERINTENDENT
Position reports to the Town of Port Edwards Board.
This job has very limited supervising responsibilities.
Responsibilities
The following duties are not all-inclusive and illustrative only. An employee may perform some or all of these duties and others as assigned.
- Improve, maintain, repair, and clean town roads, bridges, right of way and ditches
- Operate heavy motorized equipment to include excavating and grading town roads and ditches
- Perform general town road maintenance duties such as cut brush, shrubs, trees; mow grass; remove refuse and trash; patch and seal roadways and repair berms; repair and install guardrails; install culverts; install and maintain road signs and sign posts;
- Complete snow and ice removal activities; loads truck with front end loader; drives dump truck to spread salt or plow snow
- Operate tractor mower and road grader
- Perform routine maintenance and general repair on equipment
- Conduct general building and grounds maintenance and/or custodial work; mow lawn, sweep, shovel walkways, paint structures, refuel equipment etc.
- Operate light and handheld equipment (i.e. chainsaw, air compressor, shovels, welder)
- Record man hours, material and equipment used on projects
- Issue and keep records of land use, driveway, and pond permits
- Answer telephone; return messages
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Possess a valid Class B CDL with air brake endorsement
- Knowledge of safety practices
- Experience in equipment operations or any equivalent education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform this job
- Welding knowledge helpful
Position is subject to random drug and alcohol screenings.
All duties associated with this job are required during emergency situations which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response and emergency situations.
Starting Pay: $19/hour
