General Statement of Duties
Performs activities related to construction and maintenance of streets, facilities, properties, and other sites under City obligation, while remaining in compliance with established local, state, and federal standards.
Operates a wide variety of equipment and vehicles, specialized machinery, and tools with constant attention to safety in order to prevent accidents. Performs duties with only general direction and defined latitude for independent judgment within established guidelines and policies. Makes sure all work is performed in accordance with all federal, state and local laws, rules, and regulations for safety standards.
It is a requirement of this position to work overtime and weekend duty as needed, be on call for all public works functions, and be able to respond to work within one hour for emergencies.
Full Job Description Job Responsibilities

Field Work (Duties Include):
Maintain and repair streets, including digging out old damaged asphalt, shoveling asphalt, patching potholes and street cuts with asphalt hot-mix, performing street overlay and crack-seal operations, making concrete repairs on curbs, gutters and drainage structures, and placing and finishing concrete and gravel.
Operate a wide variety of light and heavy equipment related to public works including but not limited to hand tools, motorized tools, backhoes, tractors, street sweepers, dump trucks, asphalt rollers, compressors, snowplows, sanders, front end loaders, small loaders, water tank trucks, graders, specialized machinery, and 2-way radios.
Ensure that streets and sidewalks are clear, including plowing snow, sanding streets, and sweeping streets, gutters, and sidewalks.
Perform daily CDL pre- and post-trip vehicle safety inspections, record information in a vehicle inspection log in order to identify safety issues, service assigned equipment, perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs, report mechanical problems for shop repair.
Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs, including cleaning equipment and Public Works shop and yard areas as necessary, performing routine maintenance of Village Center buildings and grounds, including cleaning limbs and branches and cleaning the interior and exterior of buildings, servicing assigned equipment and performing routine maintenance and emergency repairs, reporting mechanical problems, coordinating shop repair, and assisting other departments with projects as needed.
Install, repair, and remove traffic and street signs, set up barricades, construction signs and cones, flag traffic, assist in the layout of street markings, install traffic striping material, including tape and paint for striping crosswalks, and operating paint sprayer in order to paint parking lots and streets.
Job Requirements

Two years of related experience with equipment is preferred.
A Class B CDL is required, a Class A CDL is preferred or the ability to obtain a CDL within the first three months of employment is required.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.
Satisfactory driving record is required for employment.
Experience with motor graders and asphalt pavers preferred.
Ability to perform manual labor including but not limited to shoveling and raking dirt, asphalt and other materials.
Must be able to tolerate a variety weather conditions which may include wet, humid, snowy, sunny, very hot or very cold conditions.
Additional Information
The work schedule is four ten hour days, Monday through Thursday, 6:30am- 5:00pm. There is 10% on-call pay for snow removal duties.
