About the Position
Under the direction of the Policy Coordinator, support with various activities that fall in line with policy strategies that promote and advance community level health and wellness, in the areas of alcohol, cannabis, and other substances.
This position will support the Empower Watsonville groups with generating enrichment opportunities, elevating youth voice, coalition building, and supporting youth with policy research and development. The Program Specialist will also support administrative needs for the local and county coalition.. Duties may include coordination of meetings, recording and distribution of minutes and meeting notes, updating coalition materials, correspondence to and between coalitions and workgroups, tracking documentation, and assisting coalition and workgroups with data collections and research..

Pajaro Valley Prevention & Student Assistance, Inc (PVPSA) has been the leader of youth prevention and intervention services in the Pajaro Valley (South Santa Cruz County and North Monterey County). Duties and Responsibilities
- Actively participates in existing strategic thinking collaborative roundtables and assists with planning and activity implementation
- Prepare materials for meetings; collect and maintain attendance data for coalition members; maintain updates of coalition member activities and other required information.
- Attend all coalition meetings, and serve as documenter; record and distribute meeting minutes and notes
- Supports Policy Coordinator with all necessary tasks needed to meet project deliverables
- Administers and collects program evaluation data
- Attend professional development trainings
- Serves as an advocate for the development of youth and adult partnerships to address gaps in services for youth
- Conduct public presentations as needed
- Collaborate to create materials and tools that support shared vision and strategy using print materials, media, and social media
- Develop and implement environmental strategies to reduce youth substance use in the community
- Research, analyze and interpret policies as they apply to programs

- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of research and analysis methods and techniques
- A history of community collaboration to advance systems change in communities
- Ability to work independently and as part the team
- Good problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- A highly motivated self-starter with the ability to coordinate multiple projects and tasks
- A passion for equity, social justice, and youth empowerment
- One or more years of previous experience leading youth organizing efforts, advocacy, and/or coalition building
- Strong problem solving and organizational skills
- Ability to research, analyze, synthesize, and communicate information that is useful to people with various learning styles, backgrounds, and life experiences
Ability to:
- Engage others in advancing health and wellness policies
- Work flexible hours and days as needed for special events or meetings
- Bilingual/Bicultural a plus! (English/Spanish)
Training and Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, social services, political science, education, or related field from an accredited institution and one year of relevant experience that aligns with elements of the scope of this position.
Salary and Benefits:
Scale: $43,680 -$48,360 depending on qualification and experience
