Health & Fitness Educator (Turf)

Position Overview: This employee will report to the Director of the UA House at Fayette. The Health and Wellness educator will be responsible for the planning and implementation of health and fitness classes in after school programming, assistance with additional programs and special events for the UA House and Target Investment Zone.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports, utilizing appropriate learning activities.
- Implements daily physical education classes for students at the UA House at Fayette.
- Create and foster a positive learning and working environment for the children, youth, families that utilize and work at the center.
- Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills and strategies of formal sports, games rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
- Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the over-all safety of pupils.
- Maintains control of storage and use of UA House owned property.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the funders (i.e. Family League), and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.
- Perform other duties as required.
Community Engagement:
- Develop and maintain relationships with community partners and schools to ensure alignment of programming and coordination.
- Maintain relationships with all students and families attending UA House and living in the surrounding community.
Requirements:
- Highly organized, excellent follow-though; systematic planner; receptive to feedback.
- Experience working as part of a collaborative, accountable team.
- Must enjoy working with youth and families of all ages.
- Experience with data-based instructional decision-making.
- Must have basic computer knowledge.
- Some travel and training required as needed.
- Must be reliable.
- Experience working with urban teaching environment a plus.
Additional Information: Hours: During the school year, Monday through Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Summer hours 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Staff may occasionally be required to work weekends and/or additional hours for special events, programs, etc. Staff will receive advanced notice of these special circumstances. During the summer months, staff will work longer day-time hours.
