GT Telemetry Technician I – Decatur, IL

Position Summary:
  • This position will utilize developed skills for the installation and management of tank monitoring systems consisting of industrial PLCs, tank level and pressure sensors and cellular equipment
  • Additionally the technician will support all aspects of a network of RFID railcar readers.
  • Travel required up to 50% of time

Job Responsibilities:
  • The I&E technician is expected to perform as a team member or independently to support all aspects of the monitoring equipment at various customer locations
  • Commitment to working safely and to the awareness for the safety of coworkers
  • Install and troubleshoot industrial instrumentation, electronic monitoring, metering, controlling and signaling devices
  • Install and troubleshoot electrical work, including conduit, 24v DC and 110v AC wiring
  • Travel to remote locations to repair, maintain, or install instrumentation devices
  • Experience working with service management and tracking systems: creating, updating, and closing incident and request tickets
  • Maintain schedule for repair, new install, and preventative maintenance work
  • Order, configure, install, and support industrial instrumentation devices
  • Package and ship equipment to remote locations for overnight replacement
  • Manage and control instrumentation projects, working with contractors and meeting cost, timeline, and quality requirements
  • Work with 3rd party vendors on escalated issues
  • Working knowledge of WAN/LAN cabling installation/design practices
  • Additionally, as time permits, help team in other areas, including with printers, headsets, phones, and/or network cabling

Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma, 2 Year degree in an IT, engineering, or related field or 4+ years of equivalent work experience.
  • Candidates must have a basic knowledge of the following and must have had experience with: AC/DC circuit theory – wiring up basic two and three wire circuits (110V & low voltage sensors), Programmable Logic Controllers (Allen Bradley), industrial process sensors (Rosemount, Endress & Hauser), electrical safety devices (breakers, fuses, etc.), hand & power tools (reciprocating saw, hammer drill, etc.), ½” & ¾” EMT conduit installation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office, Word, Excel, VISIO, Access, PowerPoint, and MS Project and the Internet.
  • Effective Oral/Written Communications Skills.
  • Lifting 40lbs or more, climbing ladders, crawling in tight spaces, walking, standing kneeling, for extended periods of time. Use of PPE working in extreme heat and cold environments. Extensive keyboard operations, sitting and communicating by phone
  • The Telemetry Tech will follow all plant safety and operating guidelines as well as all standards of electrical safety and maintenance practices. Comprehend and implement standard electrical work practices and guidelines including those outlined by organizations such as the National Fire Protection Agency (NEC) and the IEEE.
  • Travel up to 50% of time

Must have a safe working attitude, be an active participant in safety programs, learn and follow written rules and procedures, and produce accurate documentation.
