Position Summary
This Designer position will be reporting to Underground Engineering. Designers are responsible for the coordination and design of underground electric system improvements such as new substation exits, padmount transformer replacements, cable replacement, overhead to underground conversions, and system reconfigurations. This person will also be responsible for coordination and design of civic improvement projects, new underground distribution to support customer growth, and underground streetlights for roadway applications. All design work is performed in GIS and Microstation. Design activities include field surveying, development of job sketches and construction job packages, requesting and resolving easement issues, permitting, project coordination with internal and external stakeholders, and overall project management through release to construction. This position also performs the as-built process upon construction completion.

Tasks and Responsibilities
- Design of three phase and single phase underground electric distribution systems, including streetlights, to support system growth, reliability, asset management, and civic improvement.
- Apply Underground Electric Design and Construction Standards
- Apply Electric Service Standards
- Ensure all design work sketches/drawings are accurate
- Obtain all permits and easements for assigned projects
- Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers
- Complete all design work by the requested due date
- Conduct and/or attend field meetings when necessary
- Perform field surveying and staking (including manholes)
- Observe all safety policies and procedures
- Complete all required training
- Other duties as assigned

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

- Electric utility experience
- Knowledge of underground electric distribution systems
- Proficiency in Microstation and ArcGIS Designer
- Proficiency in Work Manager and SAP
- Knowledge of underground design and construction standards
- Knowledge of CPS Energy’s Electric Service Standards
