General Summary

The majority of the graduate teaching assistant’s primary duties are in the support of instruction including but not limited to the responsibilities below:
1. Assist a faculty member with teaching-related tasks
2. Serve as a primary or secondary teaching instructor in a class or laboratory
3. Grade student assignments in a timely manner which requires knowledge of subjects taught in the class or laboratory
4. Meet with and/or tutor students, hold office hours, prepare instructional materials, and assist during class and/or lab, etc.
5. Spend the number of assigned hours for which you are being paid attending to these duties

For these particular positions, the Duties/Responsibilities are:
1. Teach the laboratory portion of a course
2. Assist students during labs
3. Proctor lab exams
4. Grade lab exams and assignments
5. Take attendance
6. Complete other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

1. Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook which can be found at http://hr.illinoisstate.edu/downloads/GA_Handbook.pdf
2.Degree seeking graduate student at Illinois State University enrolled in the School of IT Graduate Program working towards an MS in Information Systems
3. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required
4. For teaching assistant positions, state law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position

Desired Qualifications

1. Minimum GRE = Meets or exceeds 300 (verbal + quantitative)
2. Minimum TOEFL = 94
3. Skills required vary by teaching assignment but may include: Java and Microsoft Office.

Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on-campus employment for all positions held. International students are restricted by their visa status to no more than 20 hours per week of on-campus employment when the university is in session but may work up to 28 hours per week when the university is not in session. Please contact the Office of International Student and Scholar Services for guidance on visa restrictions on work hours. The University cannot grant exceptions to visa status rules/laws.
