Starting Pay Range: 35,595.00 - 42,000.00

Essential Functions:
The purpose of this position is to assist the Office of Financial Aid in administering, evaluating, approving, and awarding students in accordance with federal, state, institutional guidelines. Assist students and parents in finding and implementing funding sources to finance the student’s education and informs student/parents of their options. Exercise professional judgement and makes decisions regarding students with special conditions as defined by federal guidelines. Maintains interface with other college departments, outside agencies, and professional organizations. Other functions include federal direct loans, general financial aid advising, recruiting, orientation, transfer services, and day to day office duties.
The Financial Aid Advisor/Loan will work under the general direction of the Director of Financial Aid.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Process applications and confidential documents, including financial aid applications, tax documents, and any correspondence.
- Determine need for additional documentation to verify accuracy of application data, notify student of any missing documentation.
- Review financial aid applications and any supporting documents for completeness and accuracy.
- Resolve eligibility and application issues and make necessary corrections if needed.
- Export data to the DOE and verify corrections when returned by the DOE.
- Validate and award federal financial aid in accordance with the DOE regulations and procedures.
- Validate and award Direct Loan Program (subsidized, unsubsidized, Parent Plus loan, and Private loans).
- Assist the Financial Aid Director with overall administration of local, state, and Title IV financial aid programs.
- Assist with Financial Aid nights, informational and outreach programs, new student orientation, group advising, and other pertinent events.
- Assist with yearly setup in Colleague.
- Assist students in their dealings with other departments that are associated with student financial aid (Business office, Admissions, and Academic departments).
- Assist student pursuing, obtaining, and developing alternate funding sources i.e. federal, state, and foundation scholarships, for program development and enhancements as assigned.
- Assist or advise students regarding course withdrawal consequences to ensure that all students receiving financial aid meet satisfactory progress each semester.
- Require extensive interaction with the public, excellent relational skills, and the ability to exercise independent judgment, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Exercises professional judgement and makes decisions regarding students with special conditions as defined by federal guidelines.
- Provide financial aid assistance to all inquirers including assistance with Financial Aid Application.
- Provide guidance and counseling to veterans seeking veteran educational benefits through the GI Bill or Hazlewood.
- Attend trainings and Department of Education workshops.
- Monitor satisfactory progress policy and notify students of financial aid warning and suspension.
- Monitor courses pursued by students to certify classes that only apply to their program of study.
- Maintains familiarity with College's policies, procedures, and academic standards.
- Must actively keep abreast of changes to state and federal regulations and internal policies and procedures in order to ensure accurate and efficient interpretation of information to ensure program compliance. They must also be able to handle complex tasks with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Environment:
Work is generally performed in an office setting with frequent interruptions and changes in the workflow/volume. May require some outdoor work for CBC events.
