Job Summary:
Nature of Work:
This full-time Finance and Human Resources Specialist (Business Services Professional) position is responsible for providing professional HR administrative and financial support services to the Department of Pathology by designing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of administrative systems and processes and advising faculty, staff and students on the proper interpretation of relevant administrative and fiscal policies and procedures.

Examples of Work Performed:
- Specific duties include creating and assisting with recruitment strategies and job descriptions, only Directors can create and implement strategies.
- Processing and tracking accounts payable, travel expenses, vouchers, and purchase requests; managing sources of funding, and speed-types; utilizing PeopleSoft HR and Finance systems to manage finances, budgets, accounting functions, payroll, timekeeping, new hires.
- Updating faculty and staff statuses; entering job code changes, promotions, FMLA, terminations.
- Managing audit requests including immigration services for visas.
- Developing, implementing and/or updating internal processes and procedures; creating, maintaining and distributing all types of reports utilizing electronic software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
- Assisting with special projects as assigned. Administrative responsibilities will include generating reports, letters and correspondence, maintaining electronic and manual filing systems, entering data, and managing schedules.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Government Accounting standards and HR/Payroll standards for higher education institutions
- Knowledge and experience in governmental accounting and audit
- Knowledge of Human Resources and Payroll laws, rules and policies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of People Soft Financial and HR software and University of Colorado financial systems.
- Ability to interpret complex rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to establish rapport with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Possess a professional demeanor and have experience that demonstrates problem solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
- The successful candidate will be detail oriented, self-motivated, a fast learner and possess excellent time management, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to take direction and use independent judgment to coordinate various projects and meet multiple deadlines.
- Ability to take initiative to establish work priorities and follow-through to insure timely completion of assignments.
- Ability to establish work priorities, plan, organize, coordinate, delegate assignments as appropriate, and follow through to implement applicable financial and administrative functions and activities.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications – Entry Professional:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, university or non-correspondence business school course work related to Business, Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, or a related field may substitute for the required general experience.
Minimum Qualifications – Intermediate Professional:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, university or non-correspondence business school course work related to Business, Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, or a related field may substitute for the required general experience. A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
- One year of professional-related experience which may include human resources and budget-related responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications – Senior Professional:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, university or non-correspondence business school course work related to Business, Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, or a related field may substitute for the required general experience. A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis, but not for the specific 2 years of experience.
- Two years of professional-related experience which may include human resources and budget-related responsibilities.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or in a related field.
- Knowledge and experience with financial record keeping and accounting systems (i.e. PeopleSoft Finance system or similar software).
- Experience monitoring and tracking budgets
- Experience providing administrative HR assistance/support to faculty, staff, and students within in a higher education and/or medical education environment.
- Experience utilizing Microsoft Word to develop, edit and update reports, statistics, letters, correspondence etc
- Experience utilizing Microsoft Excel and Access to create, revise, improve and maintain spreadsheets, statistics, financial reports, database, etc.
- Ability to communicate effectively in written form which includes the ability to check for typographical, grammatical and spelling errors.
- Experience working with and managing sensitive and confidential information.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:
Entry $49,572 to $63,056
Intermediate $53,946 to $68,619
Senior $58,320 to $74,183
The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
