JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Field Resource Professional (FRP) provides teacher education for novice Career and Technical Education (CTE; a.k.a. vocational education) instructors making career transitions from performing their technical, industrial, or medical occupations in the workplace to teaching their occupations in Pennsylvania secondary schools. Funded by the PA Department of Education through Penn State's Professional Personnel Development Center (PPDC) for CTE, the FRP position is intended to provide temporary professional experience and salary to individuals seeking to become CTE leaders; i.e., the FRP will be enrolled in coursework leading to professional credentials such as a B.S, M.Ed., or Ph.D. in Workforce Education and Development and/or PA Cooperative Education or CTE Director certification.

Primary Duties :

  • STUDENT TEACHING SUPERVISION. Meet at central Pennsylvania career and technology centers, high schools, and state correctional institutions with university non-degree students enrolled in a five-course student teaching experience. Observe and critique their classroom performance and guide them through certification requirements on behalf of the instructor-of-record. Complete a required state assessment form used to verify the student's eligibility for state certification of professional educators.
  • COURSE INSTRUCTION. Teach WF ED 105, WF ED 495C-1, WF ED 495C-2, and WF ED 495C-3 lessons, prepared by the instructor-of-record, via the Canvas Course Management System. Review and assess student assignments. Provide feedback to the students. Calculate course grades. Review course curriculum and provide suggestions on course content and instructional activities.
  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SERVICES. Work with colleagues to plan and conduct non-credit professional development for CTE teachers.
  • CONTINUING EDUCATION. Actively seek resources to expand one's content and pedagogical knowledge, through participation in professional development and successful completion of at least three credit hours of academic coursework per academic year.
  • OFFICE HOURS. Maintain office hours at University Park for a minimum of one day per week.
  • TEAM MEETINGS. Attend the monthly PPDC and FRP meetings as scheduled.
  • SCHOOL RELATIONSHIPS. Develop a strong working relationship with the teachers and administrators in each of the assigned schools.
  • DOCUMENTATION AND RECORD KEEPING. Complete and submit all reports (program data, travel expenses, and others) in a timely manner.
  • OVERALL PPDC SUCCESS. Perform other relevant duties that contribute to PDE's objectives for the PPDC (such as dissemination of PDE initiatives or teacher recruitment) as assigned by the PPDC Director, Associate Director, and Competency Based Teacher Education Coordinator.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will:

  • Be knowledgeable about pedagogy and legal policies required to operate PDE-approved CTE programs and Pennsylvania teacher certification requirements.
  • Have earned "Career and Technical Education Instructional II" (called Vocational Instructional II before 2018) certification and experience as a CTE instructor. Acceptable equivalents would be Instructional II certification in Agricultural Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, Business Education, or Technology Education or out-of-state equivalent.
  • Enroll in full-time graduate study in Workforce Education and Development; Learning, Design, and Technology; Adult Education and Lifelong Learning; or Agricultural Education at Penn State University.
  • Have a current driver’s license or an alternate ability to get to the assigned schools.

Typically requires a Bachelors Degree or higher plus two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
