Facility Operations Assistant 1

Required Qualifications: Per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. Candidate must have the ability to perform the physical tasks of the position, such as bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), stretching and climbing. Must have the ability to work from a ladder, scaffolding or man lift over ten feet in height and must have the ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Brief Description of Duties: The primary purpose of this position is to provide customer service to the University's academic and research community, by assisting with the processing of supplies and equipment needed and delivering to end users in a timely manner, so as to not compromise research or teaching programs and/or experiments. Check incoming deliveries against Purchase Orders and Requisitions to ensure accurate delivery to ordering departments. Duties to include the following:
  • Unload trucks, date-stamp, check piece count and check for damages on all incoming deliveries. Required to safely operate all motor vehicles, pallet jacks, etc.
  • Load, deliver, and unload trucks for assigned campus department deliveries.
  • Log, price, and process outgoing UPS and other freight shipments.
  • Pick up/deliver surplus equipment to and from campus departments when needed.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes: This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference.

Seniority for promotion is the length of service in the Operational Services Bargaining Unit. Seniority applies to vacant non-competitive class positions in salary grades higher than the applicants grade. Applicants must meet the posted qualifications/job requirements, legitimate operating needs of the department and have the ability to perform duties and responsibilities satisfactorily.
