Executive Director
Job description
About The Program
The mission of the Brian Gibbons Homeless Outreach Program is to find, engage, support, and refer the most needy people in the Waterbury area who live outside in tents, cars, vacant buildings, and abandoned factories.
The population we serve generally suffers from mental health illness, substance use disorders, domestic violence or a combination of all the above.
Engaging our clients and gaining their trust is the most important aspect of our work because we are then able to assist and refer them to appropriate resources that will meet their needs.
The program has strong working relationships with other community agencies such as St. Vincent DePaul Shelter, The Hospitality Center, The Center for Renewal,
DMHAS, and the soup kitchens.
The program does not duplicate services but is the sole provider of case management services to many people living outside.
In addition, to providing concrete needs to the clients like tents, food, propane, clothing, ect the program is able to provide therapy in a nontraditional way through the LCSW who directs the program.
In addition, the program administers a “safe house”, which is used to provide short term respite for people on the caseload who are medically fragile or could benefit from being inside while they meet specific goals like searching for employment, waiting for a rehab bed, or other situations.
