Position Title: Eureka! Summer Program Group Leader (Teens)
Nature of Position: Full time, Temporary (5 weeks) June 12th -July 14th
Reports To: Eureka! and Teen Coordinator
Agency Description: Founded in 1971, Girls Incorporated of Carpinteria is an affiliate of the national Girls Incorporated organization, the nation’s leading expert on issues affecting girls and young women. Our mission is to inspire and empower girls and women to achieve personal, social, political and economic success. We provide quality, research based programming to over 600 girls and young women ages 5-18 and their families. In addition, we provide child abuse and adolescent pregnancy prevention courses to approximately 750 boys and girls in the Carpinteria Unified School District.
Program Description: Girls Inc. Eureka! is a 5 year, STEM-based approach to engaging and empowering 8th - 12th grade girls to see themselves as an important part of the workforce of the future. During the Eureka! program, girls get to participate in a variety of exciting and compelling activities that explore the cutting edge world of STEM - through hands-on experiences in a college campus environment. With complementary activities in sports and physical fitness, healthy living, and financial literacy, Eureka! fully fosters educational, professional and personal development.
Primary Responsibilities: Eureka! Group Leaders provide a positive, enriching summer experience for participating girls. By implementing teambuilding activities, assisting in classes, supervising girls and modeling the “I Can Do It” Eureka! attitude, group leaders will play an integral role in reaching the goals of the program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Leading daily personal development activities and teambuilding exercises
Assisting in all components of Eureka! programming, including supply distribution and classroom cleanup.
Helping to prepare and distribute daily snacks
Collaboration with the Eureka! Staff team in addressing program or individual girls’ issues
Supervising the girls at all times, ensuring that they are on task and following the Eureka! Code of Conduct
Modeling appropriate behavior and serving as a mentor for girls Attending all staff meetings and trainings
Documenting all program activities, including attendance
Moving the girls safely through campus and field trip locations
Qualifications and Skills Desired:
Experience working with youth, preferably adolescent girls
Current college students preferred
Strong communication skills
Patient, creative, fun and mature
Job Types: Full-time, Temporary
Pay: $15.50 - $17.00 per hour
