SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Estimating Supervisor will support the assigned Business Unit and will supervise assigned Estimating staff. The Estimating Supervisor will have strong knowledge of the Construction Industry in order to manage bid specifications and pre-bid requirements for the Estimating team. Coordinates work load and instructs, trains and provides guidance to Estimating staff in interpreting customer product requirements from architectural drawings and verbal or written specifications. Corresponds with sales representatives, architects and contractors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises, coordinates, provides leadership to and review work of assigned Estimating staff.
  • Estimates personnel needs, plans, organizes and schedules work load, assigns work, instructs and assists staff to meet completion dates.
  • Coordinates work of assigned Estimating Department staff to assure proper distribution of workload, timely operation of the Department's procedures and completion of work. Responsible for monitoring quality of work and checking/auditing price quotations for correctness.
  • Coordinates Estimating Department in preparing cost estimates and price quotations on new work and project continuations. Collects information for proper quotations from other departments as appropriate.
  • Instructs, trains and provides guidance to Estimators. Performs liaison duties for the Department.
  • Reviews, analyzes, interprets and resolves the more complex problems referred by Estimators.
  • Reviews and interprets customer product requirements from architectural drawings and verbal or written specifications. Provides specifications to Drafting Department.
  • Corresponds with sales representatives, architects and contractors to obtain missing information and recommend change or substitution to improve cost, delivery or product.
  • Working from drawings, bid forms and verbal or written requests, prepares complete and informational cost estimates and price quotations.
  • Assists in providing details of orders received for order entry, drafting and production layout.
  • Makes calls on domestic architects or contractors for sales, and arranges consultation with Engineering Department.
  • Assists with special pricing quotes on specific items, as needed, for Estimating Dept.
  • Develops and implements work methods, authorizes overtime, and controls costs. Evaluates and recommends changes in methods and procedures. Assures adherence to departmental procedures.
  • Acts as liaison with other departments, units or organizations. Builds rapport with other organizational units and individuals critical to department's success.
  • Ensures that work groups have necessary resources to complete requirements. Helps facilitate the group process both in meetings and in daily operations. Provides feedback and coaching for assigned staff. Develops individual department members and the entire group in group process, team dynamics, basic quality tools, and problem-solving models and techniques.
  • Guides work group problem solving process toward continuous improvement of quality, timeliness, and productivity measures and expediently advises groups of any organizational changes that may affect their processes. Orients new members of departments. Ensures that department goals are pertinent and clear to all. Helps group reach consensus of key issues.
  • Prepares status reports concerning departmental activities and work in progress as required.
  • Keeps informed of new developments in estimating field, including adaptation to market changes and evaluation of new software or tools relevant to estimating.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and salary reviews for assigned staff.


Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE/ EDUCATION: (Minimum Education and/or Experience required)
  • Associates Degree and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of Commercial construction is required. Knowledge of construction industry through a manufacturing environment is also acceptable.
  • Construction Document Technologist (CDT) certification is a plus.
  • Advanced math skills.
  • Ability to use Computer-Aided Design (CAD) System.
  • Knowledge of Estimating procedures, pricing, and discounting.
  • Knowledge of sales procedures.
  • Blueprint reading.
  • Demonstrated leadership competencies along with previous supervisory experience is required.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Strong communication skills are required.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage team to meet deadlines.
  • General computer literacy required.
  • Salesforce experience is a plus.
  • Advanced math skills.
  • Attention to detail
