Your Role:
Tetra Tech, Inc. is currently seeking a full-time Mid-level Environmental Scientist, Geologist or Engineer for our Kansas City, MO operations to manage and support various environmental projects throughout the country. This position will support a variety of contracts, including federal, state, local, and commercial clients. Duties will include:
- Writing and reviewing Phase I and II ESAs.
- Preparing permit applications and required reports for hazardous waste facilities, SPCC, SWPPP, air emissions, and other regulatory programs.
- Development of sampling plans.
- Participation in field sampling events and investigations, including collection of soil, groundwater, surface water, soil gas, and indoor air samples.
- Proposal writing and cost-estimating.
- Project and subcontractor management.
- Preparation of clear, concise reports that include tabular, numerical, and graphical presentations and analysis of environmental data.
- Duties may require limited outdoor work as well as overnight travel.
In this position you will be part of a project team, in some cases as a project manager and in other cases as project support staff. You will gain valuable management skills, data collection and interpretation experience while managing project budgets, managing subcontractors and preparing detailed analysis of field data and project reports. Tetra Tech provides mentoring and training opportunities to help all staff levels hone their areas of expertise and diversify their interests.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have 6 to 10 years of experience with environmental compliance, Phase I and II ESAs, hazardous materials, sampling of environmental media (soil, groundwater, air, etc.), technical writing and environmental consulting or related activities.
Desired skills in the ideal candidate include but are not limited to:
- Must possess strong analytical, organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Must be highly motivated, customer focused and work well in a team environment.
- Proficiency with MS Word and Excel also preferred.
- Effective time-management skills, with the ability to multi-task and maintain flexibility in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to interact with co-workers effectively, professionally, and positively, clients, vendors, the general public, and other business contacts.
In addition, this position requires:
- Driving on a regular basis, therefore, passing a motor vehicle record background check.
- Maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record.
- Passing a criminal background check.
Education and Certifications:
B.S. or B.A. degree in scientific or engineering field is required. Completion of 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training and current 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher training are required to perform this work. If the successful candidate does not already possess this training, Tetra Tech will provide training prior to initiating regular work duties in the field.
Physical Demands:
- Able to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting.
- Able to carry objects weighing 40 lbs.
- Must be able to tolerate working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions.
- Perform manual labor including excavation with shovels.
- Work may require extended field rotations (sometimes 10-12 days at a time).
- Must be able to wear full-face respirator and complete annual medical monitoring program, including pulmonary function testing.
Work Environment:
This position will require limited outdoor work within the four-state area of Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska during all seasons, including peak summer and winter conditions, with opportunities to support projects throughout the country. Projects outside the Kansas City area will require overnight travel.
The majority of the work will be performed in our Kansas City, Missouri office. Limited work from home options and flexible work schedules are available.
