Salary Range: $85,000 - $100,000 USD annually + Benefits (+ Bonus)

The salary range reflects the minimum and maximum target for the position at the time of posting. Within the range, exact compensation will be determined based on education/training, skill set, experience, and other organizational needs.

Position Summary:

We are looking for an Environmental Control Supervisor to join our team in Othello, Washington. As the successful candidate, your objective is to effectively manage and implement policies and programs as they relate to Environmental Compliance for McCain Foods USA. You will adopt an atmosphere of strict environmental compliance with all applicable environmental permits and regulations. Under the direction of the Plant Engineer, you will support the plant strategy through the SQCDPE framework (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, People and Environment) as we work towards continuous improvement throughout the facility.


Key Responsibilities:

Supervise Water Supply, Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations and other waste processes

  • Active participation in health & safety initiatives, taking a lead role in promoting and adherence to company safety work rules and drive towards zero incidents
  • Comply with WA State UTC (Utilities and Transportation Commission) for the biogas pipeline.
  • Maximize biogas generation from the covered anaerobic lagoon system for eventual use in the boiler system.
  • Operation and scheduling of mud removal system which is a waste stream from the potato receiving area of the process.
  • Efficiently plan and carry out land application of waste lagoon material on an annual basis.
  • Monitors operation of spray irrigation lagoon system (pumping, pipeline, storage, infrastructure, repairs, etc.) and implement operational changes as required for Washington State Waste Discharge Permit.
  • Manage crop management plan (sampling, monitoring, testing, communications) with 3rd party farm base and WA State and local regulatory parties, as well as collaboration with McCain, Othello Agriculture Team.
  • Monitors and manages water supply wells on site with implementation of operational procedures, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Attend meetings of trade associations (LEPC) and State regulators in order to stay current on environmental trends and laws and communicate this information to McCain management.
  • Plans, organizes and directs the operation, maintenance modification, and improvement for the water and wastewater treatment plant.
  • Analyzes operational process control procedures and institutes changes when necessary to achieve full compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory agencies- air, water quality and solids disposal requirements.
  • Maintains accurate operational records and prepares reports required by McCain Management and all regulatory agencies.
  • Administers and monitors operational budgets to attain financial objectives.
  • Establishes and monitors objectives for subordinate personnel and performance objectives for treatment plants.
  • Maintains technical operational skills at the highest level and remains informed of the latest developments in the field.
  • Manages over all Waste Treatment facilities, functions, and personnel in accordance with approved policies and procedures
  • Inspects facilities, analyzes, and evaluates Operation & Maintenance functions; reviews records and data; interviews and select new Operation & Maintenance personnel; initiates or recommends new or improved Operation & Maintenance methods or practices.
  • Develops plans and procedures to insure that facilities operate within permit limits as an integrated system.
  • Recommends additions or improvements to the treatment facilities and analyze their cost effectiveness
  • Performs personnel evaluations and initiates personnel actions such as hiring, terminations, promotions, etc
  • Manages feeder program (wet waste).
  • Manages waste equipment maintenance.
  • Oversees and directs Environmental/Waste Treatment employees.
  • Helps to build and promote a strong “Teamwork” environment in each individual work group, the Factory, and the Company
  • Environmental permit establishment and implementation
  • Responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance with all wastewater, water supply, solid waste, air, and hazardous waste permits.
  • Analyze permitting requirements and prepare environmental permit applications.
  • Prepare documentation and task tracking plans to demonstrate compliance with facility environmental permits.
  • Key owner and point person for ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
  • Active participant in the efforts conforming to ISO 14001:2015 EMS- Environmental Management System
  • Leads the initiative of waste to landfill reduction. (i.e. recycling, reuse, etc.)
  • Lead internal and external auditing activities- Includes utilizing Intelex to track action items


Qualifications:

  • Level 4 Certification as a wastewater operator or ability to attain that certification within one year.
  • Ten years of experience in the operation and maintenance of water or wastewater facilities.
  • Five years of experience in supervisor role.
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills.
