CenterPoint Energy is looking for an Engineering Technologist/Specialist to join our Major Underground Feeder Team, located in Houston, TX.
You will have the ability to: provide engineering and technical support services associated with the design, construction and operation of CenterPoint Energy's overhead & underground distribution system.

To be successful in this role you will:
Review and analyze customer submitted site plans, structural drawings, electric one-lines, schematics, and load analysis.
Design overhead and underground facilities for electric service.
Prepare cost estimates and Terms & Conditions packages for electric service to customers.
Inspect customer required construction to approve/disapprove.
Prepare work orders, easement documents, agreement letters and operational agreements.
Perform cable pull analysis, protective device coordination studies, motor start and fault current calculations.
Interpret and apply applicable codes and standards (i.e. National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code, etc.).
Support the construction, operations and maintenance of the distribution system through communication with field personnel and customers.
Gather and analyze data, perform engineering studies, prepare written reports, give oral presentations related to distribution systems.
Prepare new or revise engineering/technical specifications.
Manage multiple projects involving customers, contractors and internal departments.
Your background includes:
Education:
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university or, sixty hours of credits in an engineering discipline and at least four years of on-the-job technical experience in an engineering or electric utility environment.
Experience:
Requires a minimum two (2) years of experience in a technical or engineering role for an electric distribution utility. The two (2) years are required over and above the education requirement stated above.

Able to use a PC, CAD equipment.
Able to use mathematics, including trigonometry and calculus, to complete complex engineering design calculations and relate mathematical solutions to actual utility situations.
Able to interpret, analyze and produce electrical models, drawings and technical documents.
Able to apply knowledge of electrical theory and system operations to daily decisions.
Able to make informed decisions, follow procedures and comply with policies based on the knowledge of the work and the services provided by CenterPoint Energy.
Able to calculate system short circuit quantities using sequence networks.
Able to communicate effectively with engineering, construction personnel, customers, and others in written and verbal form.
Able to prioritize and schedule tasks, pay attention to detail and demonstrate good organizational skills.
Able to work and participate successfully in a team environment to accomplish assignments.

Working Conditions:
Able to work a varied schedule to complete projects and meet deadlines in response to changing demands.
Able to travel to attend meetings, industry or professional association conferences and stay overnight as required.
Able to perform work indoors in an office environment and outdoors at construction sites.
Able to perform inspections of work sites, coordinate and exchange ideas with field personnel, vendors and fabricators, and follow up with inspections.
Able to climb ladders to access manholes, vaults and trenches is required.
Able to complete assigned Emergency Operations Plan requirements is required.
Physical Requirements:
Able to perform work indoors an office environment and outdoors at job site/field locations.
Able to work with some exposure to all weather conditions; hot, dirty and/or greasy equipment, high noise levels, and uneven and overgrown terrain, when inspecting work sites in field.
Able to demonstrate the visual acuity to view and inspect work and job sites/field locations.
Able to exchange information with customers and company personnel.
Able to climb, stand, walk, bend, kneel and squat to perform work.
Able to demonstrate the manual dexterity required to operate a personal computer.
Able to view computer terminal/screen, sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
Able to work a varied schedule that may require more than 40 hours per week to meet established deadlines and accomplish objectives.
Able to take notes and compose written documents.
Able to meet challenging deadlines and enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Able to exert less than ten pounds of force frequently and greater than ten pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Able to travel to field locations for inspection, installation, investigation and occasionally to travel out of town overnight for meetings or conferences.
Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.
Able to operate a motor vehicle.
