Job Summary:

Responsible for receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, determining the nature and/or severity of the call, and dispatching emergency services by using radio and telecommunications systems to transmit details to appropriate emergency services departments/personnel to respond as needed.

Job Duties:

Receives incoming calls and determines the nature of the emergency. Exercise strong problem-solving and customer service skills and have the ability to work well in stressful situations. Determines the location and type of call, which the responding agency should be, and the most efficient and safest route to the scene. Dispatches the appropriate agency and coordinates with other public safety agencies. Determine if other responders are required, such as law enforcement officers, medical responders, firefighters, tow trucks, and dispatch other services if needed. Communicates with emergency staff to assure timeliness of service. Must be detailed-oriented to relay the proper information to the correct agency. Prioritizes requests for services. Answer queries from the public regarding non-emergency situations. Operates computer dispatch systems efficiently to obtain information for law enforcement, fire and rescue operations, and emergency medical services. Maintains appropriate paperwork as required. Compiles and tabulates data as necessary. Complies with the applicable state, tribal, and federal regulations in regard to the security, safety, and confidentiality of any record they create, maintain, transfer, or destroy, whether the record is written, taped, computerized, or stored in any other medium. Participates in peer-interviewing and helps select staff for the Emergency Communications Department. Participate in training sessions as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibility.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); no exceptions.


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

No additional experience required.


COMPUTER SKILLS

An individual should know Internet software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets the requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. Must obtain certifications in Oklahoma Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (OLETS) and/or Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) within one year of hire date.


Must possess the National Incident Management System (NIMS) certifications below:

ICS-100: Introduction to the Incident Command System

ICS-200: ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents

IS-700: National Incident Management System An Introduction


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Must be able to operate computers, have basic clerical training, and basic telecommunications training. Knowledge of Law Enforcement ten code preferred. Must abide by the Office of the Marshal staff code of conduct, embrace and implement the Home/Health/Hope Cherokee Nation Strategy.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to correct/adjust focus.
