Position Overview:

The EHS Specialist partners with the management team to help ensure that a robust, continuous-improvement based Environmental, Health and Safety Management System is in place and managed effectively. This EHS Management System includes provisions for the establishment of EHS related goals and metrics, programs to help ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations, injury and Illness prevention programs, and Safety Leadership. This position assists the EHS Director and broader Management Team in the establishment and maintenance of a safe work environment and a safety culture where the company and the employees value working safely. The position includes the hands-on application of technical safety knowledge, risk identification and problem resolution.

Essential Duties:


This person will:

  • Be responsible for providing compliance for Safety and Health programs and assisting with Environmental compliance programs.
  • Manage the Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics Programs, including oversight of IH monitoring, review and communication of sample results, coordinating ergonomic assessments, and implementing controls to address specific IH and ergonomic issues.
  • Review processes, facilities, procedures and management of change documents to assure conformance to recognized EHS regulations, standards and guidelines.
  • Provide support to client groups in completing injury/illness analysis, training, self-assessments and addressing specific EHS concerns as they are raised.
  • Assure completion of all regulatory submissions, notifications, etc. required to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local EHS requirements.
  • Organize and maintain OSHA/EPA mandated records in coordination with the EHS team.
  • Prepare and share plant safety related messages through multiple channels and help establish and report performance on key safety metrics (both leading and lagging).


Knowledge & Skills Summary:


  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, particularly those pertaining to lockout/tagout/tryout (energy control), machine guarding, and powered industrial trucks.
  • Knowledge of basic monitoring techniques for noise, oil mist, solvents is helpful.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent MS Office Suite skills, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated project management skills. Effective identification and management of identified issues through validated closure.
  • Knowledge and (preferably) implementation of EHS Management Systems such as OHSAS 18001, OSHA VPP, ISO 14001, and ISO 14000.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Environmental, Chemical Engineering, or related.
  • 5+ years EHS experience in metal working, chemicals, or other manufacturing environments.
  • CSP or CIH preferred.
