Job Title: Education Coordinator

Time Commitment: Part-time Employee, 20 hours per week. This position is a hybrid of onsite and remote work. Expected start date of Wednesday, July 5, 2023.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Living Jazz is seeking a dynamic team member who’s great with people, is passionate about music, and wants to build a career in the education field to be their next Education Coordinator. The Education Coordinator will work in close partnership with Living Jazz’s Executive Director and Operations Manager. They will be a lead figure for the Living Jazz’s Children’s Project. This person will coordinate a roster of 10-15 incredible teaching artists at 10-15 public elementary schools in Oakland and West Contra Costa County. They will be a key enabler of our local impact, as we offer free music and dance education to over 1500 students! The position allows some flexibility in terms of hours and at the same time requires the ability to quickly respond to teachers’ and schools’ needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Management

  • Overseeing all school partnerships, the expansion of our school programs, and supervising all Teaching Artists. While the Education Coordinator can expect to interact with students, musicians, and community partners daily, their role is not to implement the programs, but rather to manage and oversee program implementation.
  • Drafting job descriptions, screening teaching artist applicants, conducting interviews, and facilitating hiring of teaching artists.
  • Working with the Living Jazz Operations Team to coordinate young artists participating in Living Jazz Children’s Project as needed for any possible public performances through Living Jazz.
  • Working with the Development Department as needed for attaining information for grant requirements and ensuring fulfillment of program initiatives. This includes Oakland’s Arts Incentive Grant (AIG) as well as assessment information for our Development Department.
  • Coordinating schedules with school administration and teaching artists for each semester as well as facility needs.
  • Drafting and submitting bi-weekly payroll for all teaching artists and substitutes.
  • Interfacing with venues, vendors, key personnel, and participants for each program. (i.e. school principals, teachers, venue managers, parents, students, etc.)
  • Must be able to lift 20lbs and assist with transporting instruments and materials.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.
  • Being a sounding board and educational partner for Living Jazz Teaching Artists.

Program Development

  • Developing, Implementing, Managing, and Assessment of Living Jazz Children’s Project Rubric and Curriculum for TK-8th Grade with support from Operations Team and our educational program consultants.
  • Managing the reporting of all assessment results regularly.
  • Identifying areas for improvement and growth.
  • Working with the Executive Team to on any new potential school partners as needed.

The Following Are Desired, But Not Necessary

  • 3+ years of nonprofit program management or school leadership experience, preferably in the Creative Youth Development Sector or in public schools.
  • Relevant, innovative, and proven teaching and classroom management practices.
  • Strong understanding of how social identity, economic, and cultural factors intersect dynamically with/in Living Jazz programs, schools, students, colleagues, families, self and society at-large.
  • A firm understanding of the changing community landscape in the Bay Area, and how these changes impact Living Jazz’s work.
  • Must live in the San Francisco Bay Area and be able to work at our Oakland office.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, etc. as well as Google Suite on both PC and Mac.
  • Proficiency in CRM Software such as Salesforce is a plus.
  • Proven commitment to and demonstrated leadership experience working in culturally diverse organizations.
  • Skilled communicator, learner, listener, and collaborator - open, approachable, personable – who creates a positive working environment within the organization and community.
  • Embraces technology and is experienced in leveraging current communication tools and management platforms designed for organization & efficiency.
  • Ability to work some weekends and evening hours as necessary.
  • MUST LOVE BAY AREA MUSIC.

SALARY

This is a non-exempt half-time position with an hourly salary of $27-31/hour and an expected average of 20 hours per week. All employees are eligible to participate in the Living Jazz 401k plan. This position has the potential to go full time.
