DSHS ESA Public Benefits Specialist Lead
Job description
In this role, you will serve as a lead employee. You'll assist the supervisor of the Public Benefits Specialist staff by coaching, assisting in financial eligibility determinations, and providing focused training. You will also regularly conduct financial eligibility audits and ensure that current eligibility information and training are communicated with staff.
King County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.
Some of what you will do
Support Public Benefits Specialist staff who process cash, medical, and/or food benefits- Audit/review work of Public Benefits Specialist staff
- Maintain and review procedures for efficient workflow
- Verify and establish overpayments and complete referrals
- Investigate and resolve customer complaints
- Analyze oral and written information
- Educate stakeholders on public benefit programs and eligibility requirements
- Professionals with twelve months of experience* as a Public Benefits Specialist 3
- Excellent knowledge of Cash Food and Medical Programs, Community Services Division processes, and confidence in navigating ACES, ACES Online, Barcode, e-Jas, ICMS, Washington Connections, and other related state programs strongly preferred

- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with management, peers, direct staff, and clients; may be in a virtual or office setting
- Ability to read, interpret and explain State procedures, memos, and directives
- Capacity to make decisions based on the knowledge and correct interpretation of public laws and policies
- Flexibility to prioritize and perform multiple tasks
- Demonstrate management skills with the ability to adapt to each person’s learning and communication styles when providing guidance
- Desire to work cohesively within an established team
- Keen on promoting a positive work environment that supports compassion, collaboration, transparency, trust, honesty, respect, and accountability
