PASSENGER VAN DRIVER, PART-TIME, SEASONAL
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Director of the Museum Experience and Safety, in collaboration with the Facilities, Learning and Community Collaboration, and Museum Experience Team, responsible for driving the Museum’s passenger van over designated routes, primarily for tours of the Winslow Homer Studio, to support the Museum’s goals of enhancing relationships with constituents and integration of the studio visit with the Museum experience.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Operates a passenger van within prescribed route(s) in accordance with predetermined time schedules; escorts and assists passengers on and off the van as necessary.
- Works closely with the Homer Studio Guides and the security staff at the studio to ensure safety of the visitors and respond to any emergencies.
- Maintains a positive and professional attitude while being able to promote the best of the Museum through exceptional and efficient customer service to Museum visitors.
- Provides consistent and accurate communication of museum information.
- Ensures safety of passengers, including recognizing problems which may interfere with the welfare and safety of passengers and implementing appropriate solutions.
- Administers first aid and/or CPR as authorized under current standard certification as necessary.
- Conducts daily safety and operations inspection of assigned vehicle; recognizes malfunctions in equipment and takes appropriate action; reports needed mechanical repair, cleaning, or service when necessary.
- Complies with all traffic laws, PMA transportation policies and procedures, and other rules and regulations pertaining to motor vehicle operations.
- Maintains records and prepares reports as required.
- Performs special projects and other related duties as required, directed, or as the situation dictates.
- Complies with all Portland Museum of Art safety rules and procedures.
- Fosters relationships and builds philanthropy with patrons at the PMA, as defined by displaying behavior that welcomes all individuals contacted during work. This may include answering questions, utilizing approachable body language such as smiling and making eye contact, thanking people for visiting the PMA, and other open and engaging behavior daily.
- Weekend work is required.
- Regular and consistent attendance at the workplace is required.
- Supports the PMA’s strategic goal to advance a culture of inclusivity and diversity.

None.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent with three years of experience in the operation of a motor vehicle and a continuous good driving record. Experience driving a van is highly desirable. Valid Class C Driver’s License required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent customer service skills; superior interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to motor vehicle operations and standard safety practices.
- Skilled in safe driving principles and practices.
- Ability to read, interpret and follow rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to read maps, follow directions, and use computer navigation systems as required.
- Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations; ability to administer first aid and CPR preferred.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work under limited supervision within a framework of well-defined policies and procedures.
- Good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.
- Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with a variety of individuals contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work weekends is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The majority of work includes driving and maintaining a Museum-owned or leased vehicle outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to cold, heat, noise, vibration, chemicals, and mechanical hazards. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, stoop, reach, and twist. Lifts heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Some work may be performed in a normal office environment not subject to extremes of noise, temperature, odor, etc. May operate computer, printer, photocopier, and other standard office equipment.

TERMS:
The Passenger Van Driver is a part-time, seasonal, on-call, non-exempt, hourly, UAW Local 2110 union position in Pay Grade C with a pay rate of $19.31/hourly for a limited duration not to exceed the conclusion of the studio tour season. The schedule varies depending on the needs of the PMA and includes weekends. The tour season is from mid-May to mid-November.
