The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (“The HARRIS CENTER”) is looking for a Diversion Coordinator to join our team! Under the general direction of the Diversion Navigator, this position is responsible for clinical assessments and screenings for patients being issued a General Order Bond that may have a Mental Health Indicator. Referrals and recommendations for treatment will be based on patient needs. Services are provided at the Harris County Jail.

What you will do:

• Performs clinical assessments to evaluate the individual’s need for Mental Health services and community support.
• Completes reporting in an accurate and timely manner as designated.
• Documents all findings in the medical record within required deadlines.
• Communicates and works with court staff/consumers/other staff in a manner that demonstrates sensitivity to cultural diversities.
• Performs related work as assigned and adapts to changing work requirements.
• Demonstrates ethical conduct in all clinical and professional activities.

What qualifications you will need:

• Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent in the human services field (psychology, sociology, etc.).
• 2 years working in the field of mental health preferred.
• Basic understanding of what mental illness is, common signs, symptoms and able to identify difficulties with coping in community settings.
• Strong communication skills, listening and interpersonal skills above average, written documentation is clear, concise, well-constructed and grammatically correct.
• Able to work collaboratively with others in a teamwork environment.
• Effective time management and organizational skills.
• Local resource knowledge preferred.
