Why does the job exist?

The Department of Public Safety Is recruiting for a Certified Dispatcher II candidate which supports the various New Mexico State Police district offices. Trained and certified dispatchers' responsibilities are to operate a complex multi-channel radio console, computerized telephone and teletype system that provides communication to local law enforcement agencies, to answer and assist emergency and non-emergency calls, and direct those calls to appropriate law enforcement personnel. Hired dispatchers will be paid relative to their total years as a Certified Dispatch.

It will also, operate a complex multi-channel radio console, operate a computerized telephone, and operate teletype equipment that provides communication to local law enforcement agencies.

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or Equivalent and one (1) year police and/or emergency dispatch experience. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

  • Education and years of experience must be related to the purpose of the position.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License, a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Continued employment is subject to a national fingerprint-based records check within 30 days of assignment and contingent upon remaining felony free, per Section 5.12.1.1 of the Criminal Justice Information Systems Security Policy.

Prior to scheduled interview all applicants are required to take and pass the "SHL 911 Operator Test" provided through Workforce Solutions.

Working Conditions

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.

Work is performed in 24/7 Law enforcement office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Irregular hours, overtime, swing shifts, graveyard shifts, weekends and/or holidays shifts are required. Minimal travel may be required.
