Job Summary: The Director of Transportation/S&OP is responsible to direct, plan, lead, and analyze outbound transportation for each operating regions in coordination with overall Transportation initiatives. Maintains and ensures standardization for delivery operations, driver guidelines and productivity, and consistent processes. Provides continuous evaluation and optimization of the transportation fleet and maintenance requirements in the region. Partners with Fleet Safety to execute on fleet safety initiatives and overall, DOT compliance.
The Director of Transportation/S&OP is also accountable to lead and comprehend all demand, inventory, supply, operations, and financial planning activities. The successful candidate will lead and guide both demand and supply planning team to develop and execute an end-to-end closed loop, and comprehensive annual, quarterly, and monthly S&OP plan that will guide the executive decision-making process.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate the CARE values of the organization.
- Maintain, develop, and implement regional company transportation safety, security, and risk management programs. Accountable for DOT compliance and accident investigation processes.
- Develop strategies and tactics and improve efforts to assist customers and mitigate issues.
- Lead efforts to create enhances routing that improves cube utilization and eliminate miles while supporting customer requirements.
- Develop and maintain economical and efficient private fleet and purchased transportation services.
- Accountable for standardized methodology in preventative maintenance and parts or supplies programs.
- Manage application functions that control outbound routing, driver monitoring and tracking systems, including payroll, productivity reporting, and other IT systems.
- Maintain compliance to carrier's legal and operational requirements: DOT regulations, shipping documentation, weight agreements and carrier relationships.
- Analyze fleet sizing and improve the utilization of the current assets and significantly impact the financial spend for required assets in the future.
- Manage the assigned regional transportation fleet and oversee driver regulations to include DOT compliance, controlled freight, maintenance logs, accident review, drug testing, and fleet rental expense.
- Maintain and build relationships with third party (outsourced) outbound transportation providers.
- Responsible for department management including staffing, training, performance management and career development of associates, and developing and monitoring department goals.
- Maintain current knowledge of legal regulations, industry trends and best Transportation practices; make recommendations to improve current programs and processes and to ensure company legal compliance.
S&OP Responsibilities:
- Implementing best practices in the business planning process across S&OP.
- Coaching, guiding, and creating templates to drive decision and discussions in the 5 step S&OP process.
- Serve as the direct interface between manufacturing and the marketing commercial teams to determine the best business execution plans.
- Work with business Managers to drive forecast accuracy improvements.
- Optimize production schedules by location monitoring customer priority, capacity and production lead-time.
- Maintain inventory planning process consistency to reduce excess and obsolete and disciplined process for life cycle management and adjust as business conditions change and require inventory planning improvements.
- Weekly reports to include product lead-times, OTC, inventory, incoming order report & production backorders.
- Lead monthly S&OP meetings with ELT and cross-functional team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree (Required) Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or other related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- At least 10 years of progressive transportation, logistics and fleet management experience, demand/supply planning, material & inventory management.
- At least 5 years of experience in a management role overseeing a team and a function.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, prioritization, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Practical experience with applications such as Transportation Management Systems (TMS), Outbound Network Modeling Tools, Vehicle Communication and Tracking Systems, and PC Miller/Traffic Systems.
- Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and materials process fundamentals.
- Expertise in driving business process improvement initiatives.
- Proficient in MS Office (i.e., Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
- Must be able to travel (approximately 40-50%).
- Demonstrated strong sense of urgency.
