Job Summary:

The Director of Laboratory Operations will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the laboratory and ensuring regulatory compliance, financial stability, and quality service delivery. The successful candidate will have previous experience in laboratory management and be able to lead a team of laboratory professionals to meet organizational goals. This position reports directly to the Division Lab Director and dotted line report to the Hospital C-Suite.

Key Responsibilities:

The Director of Laboratory Operations will be responsible for the following:

• Directing operations, programs, and activities to meet organizational and regulatory requirements and drive innovation.
• Ensuring adequate and qualified staffing for the department through staff hiring, orientation, competency, training, performance feedback, and management.
• Developing and recognizing staff through coaching and regular feedback and serving as a role model for employee output and conduct.
• Setting and executing department strategies to meet goals for service, quality, regulatory compliance, financial, patient satisfaction, and personnel management.
• Proactively seeking feedback and input from internal and external sources and evaluating and incorporating feedback into the department improvement and planning process to improve care delivery.
• Overseeing the financial operation for the laboratory by monitoring resource utilization, identifying variances and opportunities, and adjusting as needed to meet service and fiscal goals. Preparing Monthly Operating Review report.
• Assuring compliance with standards set forth by accrediting agencies: CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, FDA, and CMS. Developing and implementing policies and procedures and verifying annual review of all policies and procedures.
• Managing key vendor relationships and supply contracts in coordination with Laboratory Services and Supply Chain guidance.
• Developing and implementing a communication plan to ensure that department personnel are well informed and fostering open communication by offering, encouraging, and accepting suggestions from staff regarding department operations.
• Directing and organizing operations through the appropriate delegation of responsibilities and authority in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
• Monitoring and evaluating the activities of the staff and providing management, coaching, guidance, delegation opportunities, and on-the-job training and re-training as necessary to ensure operational efficiency and adherence to policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for the Director of Laboratory Operations position should possess the following qualifications:

• A Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology or Chemistry is required, and a Master’s Degree is preferred.
• National Certification as a Medical Technologist is required, and a State license is necessary in specific states.
• Seven years of progressive laboratory management experience is required with complex laboratory operations, with Hospital clinical laboratory experience preferred.
• Strong change management experience and the ability to work on the bench when needed.
• Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and/or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).

Salary Expectation:

The Director of Laboratory Operations position comes with a salary range of $95K-$105K/year, with 15% incentive eligibility annually. Sign-on and relocation bonuses are available on a case-by-case basis.
