Job description
- Supervises the Assistant Director of Facilities.
- Supervises and assigns the work of third party vendors.
- Reports major repairs or damage to the school property promptly to the Head of School and the Director of Operations.
- Works closely with other Division Heads, the Parent Guild, and other group or division to ensure that set-ups/take-downs are performed and is on-hand as necessary to support special events.
- May be required to check buildings on weekends and holidays.
- Reports directly to the Head of School.
- Determines material, equipment, and supplies to be used.
- Keeps an inventory of supplies and equipment on hand, and requisitions such needed replacements far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the work.
- Makes recommendations of supplies and equipment for purchase.
- Provides reports and maintenance status to the Facilities and Grounds Committee
- Maintaining on a regular schedule all mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing. Maintains required inspections and logs.
- Examines buildings on a regular basis for needed repairs, maintenance, and cleanliness.
- Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of gas, water, and electricity.
- Conducts an ongoing program and maintains records of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
- Conducts periodic inspections and tests of all electrical installations in the school to ensure their safe condition.
- Supervises and participates in necessary painting and general repairs to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, windows, and general mechanical areas.
- Supervises and maintains the school grounds.
- Supervises and participates maintenance of the school buildings.
- Assumes appropriate responsibility for general security of the buildings. May be responsible for the opening and closing of the building and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
- Assumes responsibility for the general fire safety of the buildings.
- Performs emergency repair services as necessary.
- Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
- Responsible for the setting up and removing equipment during special events; i.e., assemblies, graduation, conferences, concerts, etc.
- Available to fire and police departments on a 24-hour call basis when building or ground alarms sound.
- Oversee and supervise summer construction project.
- Performs all other assignments and responsibilities as directed.
- Establishes and recommends, in cooperation with building administrators, priorities on repair projects and estimates the cost of these projects.
- Plans and oversees all maintenance and repair work and develops an efficient system for dealing with emergency repair problems.
- Consults with the Head of School regarding the establishment of a regular preventative maintenance program.
- Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash and waste.
- Ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with all members of the MCDS community, including fellow employees, parents, students, and vendors/contractors.
- Ability to install, inspect, repair, and maintain the electrical, plumbing, and other related systems.
- Ability to perform various clean-up and maintenance tasks as needed.
- Ability to update inventories and submit purchase orders for approval and payment.
- Ability to inspect, operate and maintain the heating, cooling and ventilation system and the boiler system.
- Skill in maintaining security hardware.
- Ability to understand complex written and oral instructions.
- Thorough knowledge of the occupation hazards and corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties.
- High School diploma or GED required. Additional trade or vocational schooling preferred.
- At least 5 years experience in general maintenance and repair, or a closely related area.
- At least two years experience in general maintenance or other with maintenance responsibilities that would include the ability to recognize electrical, plumbing, and mechanical malfunctions or equipment failures.
- Small System Water Operator (DNR) centification for well testing (not required but willing to be certified)
- Possession of a current and valid motor vehicle operator's license.
