Scope of Job
Supports the Executive Director of Academic Support and Services in providing leadership and strategic direction for the University’s Information Technology services supporting IT helpdesk, desktop support and computer distribution and support functions for faculty, staff, and students. In addition, oversee all aspects of distributed staff among multiple campuses in Rio Grande Valley.
Description of Duties
- Provides strategic leadership and management oversight for operations, budgeting, planning, strategy and project management of assigned areas of responsibility.
- Works closely and collaboratively with IT technical services teams and Enterprise Services to identify, prioritize, recommend, develop, implement and support all IT services necessary to manage and provide faculty, staff and student support.
- Ensures optimization of IT services under this role.
- Develops and uses metrics to drive service performance improvements.
- Recommends innovative uses of people, processes and technologies to optimize efficiencies in the IT services and tools.
- Provides strategic oversight for IT services supporting the Service Desk, Desktop support and computer deployment and support functions.
- Responsible for the integrity of the incident and problem management processes within the IT Service Management.
- Responsible for measuring, reporting and improving performance of the help and service desk functions.
- Recommends and develops governance process, policies and standard operating procedures related to help services.
- Develops staff training and cross training plans to reduce knowledge gaps.
- IT process owner for incident and problem management processes.
- Meets regulatory requirements with IT solutions, including FERPA, UTS165 and other federal, state and location regulations and policies.
- Recruits and mentors staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferably in Engineering, Computer Science, CIS or other IT related field.

Licenses/Certifications
ITIL foundation Certification or obtain within one year of hire.
Required Experience
Five (5) years professional level experience leading IT areas, such as Service Desk, Desktop Support, or ITSM roles to include incident, problem management and other customer facing support along with supervisory experience.
Preferred Experience
Higher Education experience and project management exposure.
Equipment
Knowledge of personal computers, office equipment and software, such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint, various web browsers, Apple Products etc.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Frequent interaction with staff located around the valley and some travel beyond required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
Work is performed primarily in a general office environment to include hybrid work (subject to change based upon business needs). If the work is performed off campus, high-speed internet and a designated workspace are required.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with experience in presenting to other groups within the University. Ability to plan, estimate and schedule multiple tasks, develop staff resources, and project plans. Areas of responsibility may change based on the changing needs of UTRGV. Ability to develop and lead technical managers and delegate duties as required.
