Job Description Summary
This position serves as the Director of Clery Compliance, leading the Wake Forest University’s and School of Medicine’s Clery Act Compliance programs. The Director role reports to the Chief of Police and Director of Public Safety. The position will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the multi-campus program. The role will work collaboratively with stakeholders across campuses to ensure the institution’s compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and all associated regulations. The Director of Clery Compliance supervises the Clery Coordinator(s).
Job Description
Essential Functions:
Clery Compliance 80%
-
Chairs the Joint Clery Oversight Committee and convenes this working group on a regular basis.

Develops, modifies, and maintains web-based training for Campus Security Authorities. Facilitates the preparation, publication, and distribution of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report.

Collaborates with key campus stakeholders to review Clery Act crime statistics for accuracy prior to publishing the AFSSR and submitting data to the U.S. Department of Education.

Ensures notices announcing the availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report are properly developed and available to prospective students and employees.

Maintains a web-based collection of student travel for academic purposes and contacts local law enforcement agencies at the travel location for crime statistics. Guides collaborative efforts with local police to monitor and record criminal activities at any off-campus locations of recognized student organizations.

Works with the appropriate offices to ensure compliance with the Drug Free Schools and Safe Campuses regulations.

Collaborates with Emergency Management and the Office of Communications and External Relations for the University and the School of Medicine to issue “Emergency Notifications” and “Timely Warnings” in compliance with the requirements of the Clery Act.

Develops and implements procedures and recordkeeping systems to support Clery Act compliance. Completes audits related to Clery Act data gathering.

Works with the appropriate university departments to identify all Campus Security Authorities for the institution and maintains a list for the academic year. Annually or as required notifies Campus Security Authorities to submit data required for ASR.

Coordinates with the appropriate university departments to ensure compliance with HEA Fire Safety regulations.

Remains current on the Clery Act and other laws or regulations affecting Clery Act provisions.

Works with the Title IX Office and various other university offices to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Sexual Assault Victim’s Bill of Rights.

Coordinates the institution’s Clery Act compliance program.

Works with the institutional police department/public safety/security departments' records divisions to ensure proper classification of crime incident reports/fire logs (OR) Reviews incident reports/fire logs and assigns the proper Clery crime category on a daily basis.

Coordinates with the appropriate sworn/non-sworn personnel to ensure that the disposition of all crime reports are updated within 60 days to ensure Clery compliance.

Collaborate with the Division of Emergency Management to ensure that at least one test is completed each year that includes all required components to meet the HEOA definition of a test.

Coordinates and maintains an accurate list of buildings and properties owned and/or controlled by the institution and/or recognized student organizations, including property owned or controlled by WFU Properties and the School of Medicine.
Campus Outreach and Education 15%

Ensures accurate content on the University’s Clery compliance website.

Develops and implements Clery related procedures and policies through collaborative efforts with various elements of the campus community.

Oversee budget preparation and management.

Serves as the institution’s designated “Campus Safety Survey Administrator” (as that term is explained in U.S. Department of Education correspondence) and submits annual crime and fire statistics to the Department of Education and all Campus Security Authorities, as required.

Serves as the Records Custodian for all Clery Act-associated records and ensures the institution maintains accurate records on security awareness and crime prevention programs and presentations.
Other Duties as Assigned 5%

May work in other areas or for other divisions as needed, (events, etc.) as changes in schedule or duties may vary due to operational needs or unforeseen circumstances. For example, driving a company vehicle may be required, whether within the performance of regular duties, special events, or emergency situations.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Bachelor degree in related field and 5-7 years of state/federal compliance and regulatory work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Excellent computer and data management skills.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration emphasizing effective organization, administration, management, and communication.

Knowledge of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and associated regulations.

Knowledge of editorial standards and practices.

Skill in analyzing organizational problems and identifying effective solutions.

Skill in expressing ideas and information clearly, concisely, and accurately, both orally and in writing.

Ability to stimulate changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more compliant environment.
Preferred Qualifications:

State/federal compliance and regulatory work experience in the Clery Act and/or Title IX areas in higher education, showing a progression of responsibility and leadership.

Completion of advanced Clery Act training.

Attainment of the National Association of Clery Compliance Officers & Professionals (NACCOP) Clery Compliance Officer Certification.

Three years or more of work experience with an institution of Higher Education.
