- Master’s Degree in a related field of study strongly preferred, however applicants with a Bachelor’s Degree only may be considered if demonstrating exceptional experience and knowledge of comprehensive programs servicing adult learners in diverse settings
- Michigan school administrator certification - or the commitment to enroll in an approved program within six months and successfully complete such certification within 3 years
- Minimum (3-5) years successful experience in adult education or a closely related field
- Demonstrated understanding of the unique needs and challenges of adult learners, including those within underserved populations, from diverse backgrounds and/or socio-economically challenged
- Understanding of evidenced-based best practices among adult education programs, seeking innovative supports and opportunities to improve outcomes
- Knowledge of effective literacy instruction for adult learners
- Record of fostering collaborative relationships with community resources, partners and agencies toward a shared vision of effective adult education programing
- Exceptional organizational planning and supervisory skills that foster the leadership and development of team members
- Ability to effectively develop and manage the adult education budget and accurately allocate and report expenditures in accordance with applicable policy, regulations and laws
- Knowledge of grants, grant writing and compliance reporting
- Awareness and understanding of evolving community needs, resources, and partnership / collaborative opportunities
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively leverage and utilizes a range of technology for staff and students

- Leadership, oversight and coordination of the entire Kent ISD adult education program
- Responsible for the leadership and administration of effective programs and services that lead to strong outcomes while ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal laws.
- Responsible for effective selection, supervision, scheduling, training and evaluation of all adult education staff in collaborating with Human Resources
- Oversight and administration of the student registration, recruitment, enrollment processes
- Partner with other schools, post-secondary institutions, agencies and community leaders in the design, development, and implementation of programing for adult learners
- Accurately prepare and oversee all aspects of the adult education budget in coordination with the Business Office, seeking the most strategic utilization of funding resources
- Lead the process of course and curriculum development in conformance with state and federal regulations pertaining to adult education, ESL, GED, etc.
- Coordinate the strategic allocation of resources that supports instructional services and a continuum of supports that address the needs of adult learners
- Collaborate with other ISD departments and programs to enhance the opportunities and resources accessible to adult education students and staff
- Identify key measures and data that serve as indicators for success in the continuous improvement process, while taking a lead role in the program’s portion of Kent ISD’s strategic plan
- Complete and submit accurate compliance reporting as required by grants, state or other requirements
- Develops opportunities for student and stakeholder voice in the program planning and review
- Attend and/or serve on pertinent committees at the county, regional and/or state level, as approved
- Serves as a member of the Superintendent’s Expanded Leadership Team
- Comply with applicable school policy, regulations and laws
- Regularly attends all Board and Administrative meetings, as required
- Position may require periodic evening work to effectively carry out the essential functions
- Maintain regular and consistent employee attendance

Job Title: Director of Adult Education

Broad Statement of Responsibilities:
Kent Intermediate School District administrators are responsible for implementing the district’s mission of partnering with our schools and communities to provide enhanced and equitable opportunities to enrich the experiences and achievements of our learners. General Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Career and Talent Development, the Director of Adult Education is responsible for leading and administering the Kent ISD Adult Education program across multiple site locations that provide a range of services that support the needs of a diverse population of adult learners.
Job Qualifications:
Start Date: July 2023 (would also consider an August or September 2023 start subject to the successful candidate’s circumstances)
Salary: Professional Salary Schedule, Grade 9. $102,695 minimum starting salary, commensurate with experience and credentials.
Benefits: Excellent benefit package includes medical, dental, vision insurance; generous vacation and sick days; State of Michigan School Employment retirement program.
