Global Security and Risk Management, a super division within MITRE’s Center for Operations, Outreach and Legal (COOL), is committed to supporting MITRE by partnering with our customers to manage security and all hazard risks, reduce vulnerabilities, and advance MITRE’s mission by aligning solutions with business needs to deliver value. We are a trusted advisor and recognized leader in anticipating and responding to evolving security risks in a global environment.
The Global Security and Risk Management division seeks a Director, Enterprise Risk Management to lead the Enterprise Risk Management division. The successful candidate will report to the Director, Global Security and Risk Management and work closely with MITRE leadership to build a strong culture of risk management and ensure that the understanding and management of risk is central to all MITRE’s strategic decisions. The Director will also provide thought leadership on risk issues to a wide range of stakeholders and develop MITRE’s risk management long-term strategy and operating plan.
Primary Responsibilities
Director, Enterprise Risk Management responsibilities are:
Ensure that the principal risks facing MITRE are identified, assessed, and communicated to the MITRE Board of Trustees and wider MITRE Leadership
Support the Board of Trustees and MITRE leadership to review its risk appetite and drive continuous improvement in its operational risk management
Lead a Risk Council comprising a set of multifunctional representatives to identify existing and emerging risks and develop custom models to quantify risks and mitigate potential impacts to the organization
Verify and validate risk tolerance and ensure mitigation efforts are consistent with the company’s direction
Lead the Insider Threat Program and its associated functions
Direct a risk management program which includes corporate investigations, counterintelligence, insider threat, workplace violence prevention, program protection, business risk intelligence, travel intelligence, protective intelligence, OPSEC, corporate risk and insurance, international security, travel risk management, and incident management
Promote organization wide understanding of risk and effective risk management strategies
Contribute to key decision-making meetings and present analyses and recommendations
Perform risk assessments and provide solutions for risk response strategies
Minimum Qualifications
Masters in related field and/or advanced certificate in Chief Risk Officer studies
At least 15 years of relevant experience with five or more years of direct people management experience
Certification in risk-related field accredited by an international organization
5+ years of enterprise risk management experience within a highly matrixed environment
Must have five or more years’ experience within key direct risk management programs to include corporate investigations, counterintelligence, insider threat, program protection, international security and travel risk management
Demonstrated experience as an Insider Threat Program Senior Official
Demonstrated experience with managing intelligence processes and solutions
Deep understanding of risk management frameworks, conducting risk assessments and controls mapping
Experience assessing enterprise business continuity and resiliency programs
Executive and Board level reporting and presentation experience
Comfort within a fast-paced environment with the ability to adapt as needed
Intellectually curious with excellent problem-solving abilities and ability to dissect issues and quickly comprehend new concerns
Problem-solving skills in a cross functional and matrix environment
Demonstrated superior project management and organizational skills with high attention to detail
