Heritage Homes, Inc., a non-profit agency based in Holland, provides 24-hour support to men and women in 5 adult foster care (AFC) homes. The adults that we serve in our residential supportive services program have developmental or intellectual disabilities, and in some cases, physical disabilities. Our AFC programs maintain Michigan Specialized Certification, a process that helps ensure that our staff are well equipped to meet the highest level of care needs. In addition, our AFC programs are accredited by CARF, an internationally recognized rehabilitation industry accrediting body.
We work with each individual on the things that make a difference in their well-being and ability to live comfortably in the community of their choice. The communities in which we currently have AFC homes include Allendale, Holland, Grand Haven, and Jenison.
We are currently accepting applications for Full Time and Part Time Direct Support FLOAT positions. Currently, the primary locations include our Holland and Allendale homes, but may be asked to work at any of our 5 locations.
The FLOAT will be trained to work with a number of individuals in our adult foster care (AFC) homes, providing a wide variety of residential supports. This is a perfect opportunity for someone who is comfortable, and confident, in providing direct support to individuals with a variety of needs.
The float will be responsible for filling open shifts in any of our homes where staff is needed. The float will have a work schedule that varies so flexibility with scheduling is important.
This position requires the ability to travel to our different locations in Ottawa County. A mileage stipend will be paid for travel outside of staff's designated home base.
Applicants selected for this position must have a positive and upbeat personality, solid direct care skills and have to successfully work with individuals who experience a variety of developmental and physical challenges. This position is one that is highly visible through the agency and sets the tone for high standards.
Compensation Details:
Direct Support Professional, no experience - $18.00/hour
($15.65 base wage + $2.35 hero pay*)
Higher pay possible with experience in Direct Support at a group home or similar.
*Hero pay does not apply to overtime calculations.
Qualifications include :
Twelve (12) months of direct care, residential support or relevant experience; demonstration of scheduling flexibility, reliability, trustworthiness, quality care giving, good attendance, good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain confidentiality; availability to work a flexible schedule; reliable transportation; and a valid Michigan driver’s license with a driving record that is acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier.
DSP Floats must also must also meet the essential job requirements for direct support professionals including:
- Be over the age of 18 years
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check (fingerprinting), physical, drug screen, and TB test
- Have a high school diploma or GED (at minimum) (proof required)
- Must have sufficient visual and auditory acuity with or without corrective lenses/aids to observe clients and detect signs of changes in client behavior, adverse medication reactions, or other activity or event requiring intervention
