Bunzl North America is looking for a dynamic leader to join our Compliance Team as the Director of Product Compliance for Bunzl Distribution North America. This role will be based at our corporate offices in St. Louis but will support a diverse group of business in the grocery, redistribution, convenience store, agricultural, cleaning and hygiene, and safety segments across North America.

This role is responsible for ensuring Bunzl’s products meet all applicable legal and regulatory requirements and will serve as the subject matter expert for compliance regulations and standards. In this role, the successful candidate will work closely with business product experts including sourcing, procurement, product development and category management personnel as well as colleagues in Trade Compliance, EHS, Legal and Sustainability Teams to oversee the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and processes to ensure compliance with industry standards, government regulations, and internal policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Understanding and keep abreast of all compliance-related laws, regulations, and guidelines that apply to the organization and establishing compliance standards and process improvements to internal control structures.
  • Tracking applicable laws and regulations, anticipating emerging product compliance trends in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
  • Conducting risk assessments on a regular basis to identify potential areas of non-compliance and develop mitigation plans.
  • Minimizing legal risks by understanding current and proposed legislation, enforcing regulations, recommending new procedures, and complying with legal requirements.
  • Working alongside other senior managers to develop corporate governance guidelines. Keeping senior management apprised of all compliance-related issues and developments.
  • Educating both senior management and relevant team members on emerging compliance issues and communicate potential impact to the business in a timely and proactive manner.
  • Working in coordination with cross-functional partners to determine how and where product compliance considerations should be taken into account within business processes.
  • Liaising with trade groups and regulatory bodies.
  • Interact with IT department on item level reporting and system enhancements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, law, compliance or related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years’ experience in compliance management, regulatory affairs, or related field with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Thorough understanding of compliance regulations and standards (such as FDA, EPA, Prop 65 etc.).
  • Understanding of regulations and standards for FSC, EPA, REACH, RoHS, ASTM a plus
  • Proven ability to develop and implement effective compliance programs.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and present applicable data to help drive decision making as required.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Experience running multiple projects while maintaining schedules and meeting deadlines
  • Knowledge of third-party labs and testing protocols a plus
