DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in architecture, project management or related field -AND- Five (5) years of facilities maintenance, project management or construction experience -AND- Two (2) years’ experience supervising employees.

An acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs highly responsible duties ensuring effective administration of the Facilities and Operations Department. Works with the Director to develop long and short-term plans for facility maintenance and fleet administration. Ensures efficient operations, resource management and staff oversight. Appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Director of Facilities and Operations.

STATEMENT OF TASKS:

  • Assists in overall administration of the Facilities and Operations Department;
  • Assists in the strategic planning and oversight of building maintenance, facility planning, capital improvements and fleet management;
  • Recommends effective departmental programs, policies and procedures to effectuate efficient operations;
  • Monitors, assists and makes recommendations for standards and specifications for all building maintenance;
  • Monitors facilities and projects to reduce and/or eliminate hazards to public and/or projects;
  • Updates Board of Commissioners on projects, builds, improvements
  • Makes recommendations to Director regarding facilities and fleet related matters;
  • May oversee and monitor progress of county facilities projects to ensure compliance with design specifications and timely completion of projects;
  • Functions as a liaison between contractors and the county as assigned by the Director;
  • Oversees maintenance and repair of County buildings from planning to execution;
  • Supports, mentors and coaches supervisors and staff;
  • Monitors departmental budget.

  • Ability to develop long term plans and programs and to evaluate accomplishments;
  • Ability to critically assess situations, effectively plan and implement plans while dealing with deadlines and change in priorities;
  • Ability to work effectively in difficult and emergency situations requiring immediate decisions;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County officials, employees, outside contractors and the general public;
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and respectfully in a complex, multicultural work environment that values diversity, equity and inclusion;
  • Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form;
  • Ability to analyze facts and exercise sound judgement in arriving at conclusions;

  • Ability to plan, supervise and review the work of employees and contractors;
  • Ability to prepare budgets and analyze cost data;
