The Augusta County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office is seeking to employ an individual for an entry-level, full-time position for its Deputy Clerk - Criminal Division.

The successful candidate will process with accuracy court orders on the outcomes of criminal court proceedings; process incoming mail to include, but not limited to subpoenas and probation violations; set up into a Case Management and Case Imaging System new cases from preliminary hearings and appeals; assist as a Court Reporter in a Circuit Court setting; assist with Grand Jury processes; assist attorneys and members of the public regarding case information and court costs, and other related duties as designated by the Clerk of Circuit Court.

The Criminal Division is responsible for processing Court orders by indexing, scanning, and emailing/mailing to attorneys after they are signed by the Judge. Also, staff are responsible for processing appeals to the Virginia Court of Appeals and Virginia Supreme Court.

Skills required for a successful candidate include: excellent customer service; attention to detail; ability to multi-task under pressure; work as a team player, and proficiency in operating a computer, telephone, copier, and fax machine.

The minimum educational requirement is a High School Diploma. Higher Education in the criminal legal field or studies and/or a combination of experience in the criminal legal field (i.e.: courts, law firm) or as paralegal is preferred.

The position is a full-time position with an annual salary of $35,815.00. This position includes Augusta County benefits. Candidates must pass a criminal background check prior to employment.
