Essential Functions:

  • Develop adequate scheduling to balance customer volume with associate needs.
  • Comply with all state, county and local weights and measures laws and labeling requirements.
  • Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and be able to respond to questions and make suggestions about products.
  • Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
  • Promote sales through intercom announcements.
  • Review/inspect products for quality and freshness and take appropriate action with those items.
  • Understand the store’s layout and be able to locate products.
  • Implement the period promotional plan for the department.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.
  • Maintain an awareness of inventory/stocking conditions; note any discrepancies in inventory.
  • Train department associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering.
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal health and civil code including local weights and measures laws in addition to labeling regulations.
  • Order, rotate, cull, and maintain backroom levels according to store and company policy and procedures.
  • Observe scheduled shift operating hours.
  • Ensure that all current merchandising, customer service, labor control, expense and supply controls, loss prevention, maintenance, safety, food safety, associate and customer engagement rules are being followed.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions and notify store management.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notify appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
  • Report all safety risk, or issues, and illegal activity, including: robbery, theft or fraud.
  • Supervise and coach direct reports on the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports.

  • Items lifted will include produce, boxes of produce, and juice.
  • Some lifting 40# to70# from floor to shoulder and overhead.
  • Carrying produce boxes with both hands.
  • Pushing and pulling carts, six wheelers, and floor jacks.
  • Gripping with handgrip throughout shift.
  • Reaching at arm’s length, forward bending, squatting and static crouching throughout shift.
  • Wrist position of neutral, palm up, palm down throughout shift.
  • Rotation of trunk in all directions, static reaching with both hands and kneeling throughout shift.
  • Standing and walking on concrete, mats, carpet and asphalt throughout shift.
  • Climbing stairs, ladders, and step stools.
  • Operating a pallet jack.
  • Using hands to finger, handle, and/or feel objects, tools or controls.

Tools and Equipment

Knives, knife holders, paring knives, safety cutters, hoses, pallet jacks, carts and boxes.

Work Surface

Tables, racks, prep tables, carpet and tile floor.

Length of Work Day/Week

8 hours with breaks at 2-hour intervals. Workweek of up to 48 hours.
