PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Salary to be commensurate with experience
The hiring range for this position is $75,840.96 - $94,801.20
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises the functions of cross-connection control and contractor services (backflow, line testing, etc.)
- Coordinates with contractors on City projects and resolves complex problems and conflicts arising during the course of the work.
- Reviews works of subordinates and work crews
- Resolves citizen complaints in person and in writing
- Develops operational priorities, goals, and objectives
- Prepares and conducts training programs
- Develops, implements, and enforces safety programs
- Supervises assigned employees
- Prepares and maintains detailed records and reports
- Prepares and monitors program budget
- Represents the department at meetings and on committees
- Communicates with vendors and distributors to negotiate and procure operational supplies
- Makes recommendations to the superintendent regarding selection, hiring, training, evaluating and disciplining of assigned employees; and performs additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education:
- Associate Degree in a related field. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
Experience:
- At least 3-5 years progressively responsible experience in maintenance, repair or construction in a large utility including experience in material and equipment procurement and maintenance utilizing a computer-based program and project tracking database system.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Lead work/supervisory experience preferred but not required.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of principles, operating procedures, equipment, and materials used in water/wastewater utilities; methods and procedures of utility maintenance; ability to use common computer programs for records management and reports.
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills
- Skill in the use of personal computers including Windows-based, and cloud-based applications.
- Skill in checking information for accuracy and completeness and correcting errors
Abilities:
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens.
- Coordinate work with other agencies and city departments.
- Read and interpret plans and specifications.
- Prepare reports and cost estimates.
- Supervise and schedule assignments for several work groups.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Colorado Class I Water Distribution and a Collection System Class I Certificate or ability to obtain within a specific time period as directed by departmental policies.
- Colorado driver's license in good standing.
Essential Personnel:
- When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Physical Demands:
- Medium work that involves moving no more than 50 pounds with or without assistance at a time.
- Walking and standing to oversee projects.
- Some pushing, pulling, bending, stooping/crouching, and climbing to inspect work sites.
- Speech and hearing for communications with employees and citizens.
- Prolonged sitting at computer work stations.
- Hand/eye coordination to operate computer, testing equipment.
- Hand/foot coordination for operation of vehicle to travel to remote sites.
- Vision to read manuals, test instruments, and other written materials.
Work Environment:
- Works both indoors and outdoors with some exposure to varying types of weather, dust and noise.
Equipment Used:
- Uses standard office equipment including personal computer and common office software such as Microsoft 365, SharePoint and Mobile Tablet Applications.
- Operate motor vehicle
- This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) during their employment.
