Job Description
Inver Hills Community College seeks a counselor to provide academic, career and personal counseling to students.
Examples of Duties Include:

- Provide academic, career and personal counseling to students.
- Assist students with financial challenges and food/housing insecurities.
- Advise undecided, transfer, and veteran/military-connected students.
- Teach Career Development and/or College Success courses.
- Provide academic advising during new student orientations.
- Work collaboratively with Student Services, as well as with instructional faculty and other campus groups, to support the College’s commitment to student success.
- Participate in professional development.
- Serve the college community through participation in campus committees.
- Advocate for students with disabilities (physical, psychological, learning).
- Provide crisis intervention and referral as needed.
- Provide mental health and wellness programming to students, faculty and staff.
Required Qualifications
Education Requirement
- Master’s degree in counseling or counseling psychology.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of counseling experience in a community college setting.
- Experience working with students traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
- Working knowledge of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work with others to achieve department and institutional goals.
- Familiarity with and commitment to the mission and constituencies of a community college.
- Experience developing and using technology tools in the provision of services to students.
- Strong counseling skills and an interest in providing holistic counseling to students regarding career, academic and personal concerns.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust and work collaboratively with others.

Founded in 1970, Inver Hills is a comprehensive community college offering 35 program options and degrees including the Associate in Arts (A.A.), a liberal arts education degree that leads to transfer to four year colleges; the Associate in Fine Art (A.F.A.) degree in studio arts; and the career related Associate in Science (A.S.) and Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees in leading occupational areas such as nursing, paralegal, computer networking, law enforcement, human services, business, emergency medical services, teacher education, and more.
Located 10 minutes from downtown St. Paul, scenic Inver Hills Community College serves over 9000 credit students annually. Many Inver Hills students are first generation. The student of color population has increased from 24% to 28% in the last four years. Almost 30 percent of students are low income and eligible for Pell grants. Salary: Full time faculty salaries currently range from $40,912 – $85,892 annually. Salary schedule placement is determined on the basis of education and experience and in accordance with the
2021-2023 Master Agreement between the Minnesota State Board of Trustees and the Minnesota State College Faculty.
