Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for the position of Coordinator of New Teacher Program. Working with administrators and teachers, this position is responsible for the school system’s new teacher orientation program. This position is based out of the central office and reports to the Director of Curriculum and Assessment.


DUTIES:

  • Serves as new teacher mentor to first, second, and third year teachers.
  • Supervises and works collaboratively with other new teacher mentors to organize the program to better meet the needs of new teachers.
  • Provides professional learning for new teacher mentors and supports the implementation of this model with assigned new teachers.
  • Plans and implements New Teacher Academy and seminar courses, maintains detailed and accurate records and budgets.
  • Communicates regularly with other staff on the progress of the mentor program.
  • Prepares and distributes materials for use in the implementation and maintenance of the program.
  • Understands the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future and has a vision for carrying out the applicable objectives.
  • Assists Human Resources Department with recruiting and check-in surveys.
  • Evaluates the program and seeks suggestions from staff for continuous improvement.
  • Engages all stakeholders in planning & implementing program improvements.
  • Serves as PDS liaison to Salisbury University and University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
  • Assigns teacher interns from approved institutions of higher education.
  • Builds collaborative relationships with institutions of higher education and the teacher preparation programs.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least five (5) years of successful teaching experience.
  • Prior school-based administrative/supervisory leadership experience preferred.
  • Eligible for and hold, prior to appointment, the Maryland State Department of Education certification for Administrator I.
  • Knowledge of instructional planning, development, and implementation.
  • In depth knowledge of Instruction and Assessment.
  • Knowledgeable of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future.
  • Knowledgeable of successful adult learning practices.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and human relations skills.
  • Experience with planning and delivering professional development.
  • Proven ability to positively impact teacher effectiveness.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and manage personnel.
  • Skill in the development of effective work teams.
