Coordinator, Cherokee Language Scholarship Advisor
Job description
Recruit and counsel students for the Cherokee Language Teacher Scholarship program. Provide information, assistance, and service to prospective and continuing students. Resolve problems and provide support while assisting opportunities for students.
Job Duties:Recruits students for the Cherokee Language Teacher Scholarship. Assists with enrollment and degree planning. Consults with scholarship students to enhance their program of study by providing counseling students on post-secondary classes, workshops, seminars, or related language learning activities and opportunities. Guides students through the college process and provides oversight and feedback to maintain student engagement and enrollment within the scholarship program. Acts as a liaison with Cherokee Language Department staff as appropriate to enhance their language learning. Track tuition bills, required book purchases, related enrollment fees, and other costs associated with enrollment at a university. Submit requisitions and AFPs related to all scholarship costs for each student who receives the scholarship. Engages with area public schools and universities at events such as job fairs, enrollment fairs, and college recruitment events to promote the Cherokee Language Teacher Scholarship. Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No employee supervision.
Qualifications:EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university; or six (6) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Cherokee Cultural Studies are preferred, but not required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
At least two (2) years of experience in a related field.
COMPUTER SKILLS
An individual should have knowledge of Accounting Software, Contact Management software, Internet software, Order processing systems, Project Management software, spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets the requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Familiarity with the Cherokee language is preferred, but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk or hear. The employee must occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hand and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. There are no specific vision requirements for this job.
