Job description
Work with the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) team members to plan, coordinate, and conduct various programs for students in the health care career pathway. Programs include, internships, career fairs, classroom presentations, summer programs, mentorships, tours, and other activities to help students on their path to a health care career. The AHEC Program Coordinator will also assist the Director with continuing education events, AHEC Scholars, and other center events as needed.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Traveling Dissection Lab Teaching:
  • Schedule and conduct classroom presentations on health careers to secondary education students.
  • Classroom presentations for Middle and High School students to introduce them to a variety of health care career opportunities through exploration and experiential activities that include lecture, dissection and fresh organ dissections (i.e., heart, lung, chicken wing, and eyeball)


Healthcare Recruitment Activities:
  • Schedule and conduct classroom presentations on health careers to secondary education students. Classroom presentations for Middle and High School students to introduce them to variety of health care career opportunities through exploration and experiential activities that may include lecture, discussion, and organ dissections (i.e., heart, lung, chicken wing and eyeball).
  • Provide support and information to teachers, counselors, and administrators on matters involving health professions education and workforce needs.
  • Contact providers and partner organizations to recruit current health professionals as presenters for career fairs, tours, and summer program.
  • Connect current high school students with health professions students as part of the mentorship program.
  • Work with team to implement summer program. Assignments include recruiting students from diverse backgrounds, coordinating with teachers for program, managing student mentors, coordinating guest speakers, planning field trips, and oversite of students daily.
  • Work with Director to provide pre-health seminar courses for high school and college outreach programs.
  • Assist with program assessment, including tracking and analysis methods used to measure outcomes and outputs of programs.

Health Professions Students and Professional’s Support:
  • Assist Director at continuing education events including registration, setup, and overall support.
  • Assist Director with SLCC AHEC Scholars students including mentoring, providing program support, and direction, etc.

Other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in health sciences or education related fields.
  • Zero (0) to two (2) years of full-time related experience.


Trade off 1:1 in experience/education requirement.
Part time experience may be considered on a prorated basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in the medical field.

  • Experience with public speaking and/or presenting.

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Articulate with detailed information.
  • Ability to be punctual and complete tasks on time.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills including presentations and public relations.
  • Strong work ethic and a demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have a vehicle and be willing to travel to schools throughout the region.
  • Able to lift 30-35 lbs. and transport 100 lbs. on a dolly.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
