The Mid-Atlantic Area is a fast-growing group which provides engineering, scientific, construction oversight and other consulting expertise to our clients in transportation, water, resources, and building engineering markets from nine locations in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. As we grow, we are looking to continue our strong focus on quality and project management excellence with the addition if an Area Controls Specialist.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provides guidance to Project Managers in the Mid-Atlantic regarding development of project management and quality plans. Assist Project Managers in identifying best practices for their projects.
- Facilitate coordination among project coordinators, accounting staff, and other administrative staff on comprehensive and effective area-wide implementation of project support functions.
- Partner with area leadership on implementation of the Quality Management Systems (QMS) and effective project management process throughout the area.
- Communicate QMS updates and Quality Office directives to area leadership and staff as appropriate.
- Identify Project Managers needing support in properly implementing QMS and local department process requirements.
- Monitor the proper scheduling and completion of QA and QC activities through the department's use of the Quality Management Information System (QMIS)
- Identify QMS-related needs of local Project Managers and leadership and communicate to the Quality Office.
- Develop and update local department processes which support implementation of QMS requirements. Review and comment on pending company procedures.
- Regularly report area QMS implementation and audit resolution strategies to the Regional Quality Manager.
- Work with new employees in on-boarding and awareness of the HDR QMS and its role in our organization. Respond to staff questions or issues related to policies and procedures related to the organization's QMS. Identify local opportunities for training and support through monitoring loss trends due to quality-related issues.
- Perform other duties as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in related field is required, preferably in a discipline related to project controls.
- 5+ years of experience in a similar consulting industry, which should include experience in quality and process-related functions.
- Ability to develop an understanding of QMS fundamentals.
- Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven skills in the areas of staff communication and engagement.
- Strong verbal and written communication with investigative interview experience.
- Strong familiarity with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe PDF and Power BI.
- Ability to travel on a limited basis to other HDR Mid-Atlantic offices, as needed.
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple long and short-term tasks simultaneously.
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
