Utilizing a deep understanding of audiences and a foundation of marketing and communication principles, the Content Manager is responsible for the discovery, planning, and development of marketing and communication content strategy in coordination with Lewis Katz School of Medicine (LKSOM) and Temple Health Institutional Advancement (THIA) marketing and communication leadership. The position serves as the primary editor, working to develop an overall publication (print and electronic) content strategy, ensuring messaging alignment, and managing the production of stories, news, marketing copy, and information. Additionally, as the lead writer and editor for LKSOM and THIA the incumbent will be responsible for producing executive communication materials for the Dean and other members of the Dean’s leadership team. This position requires a high level of creativity, analytical skills, and an in-depth understanding of LKSOM’s and THIA’s target audiences and what is compelling to them.

Essential Functions:
  • Oversees content strategy, developed in collaboration with colleagues, designed to distinguish Temple and compel action leading to enrollment and retention.
  • Translates content strategy into compelling brand experiences for audiences across channels. Socializes content strategy and messaging among colleagues and partners.
  • Manages end-to-end content production for specific channels or publications, including strategy, messaging, coordination w. design and multimedia, planning, assigning, editing, and writing.
  • Ensures the end content experience illustrates and promotes LKSOM’s brand and strategic priorities and carries out the division’s campaign and audience engagement goals.
  • Works closely with the marketing and communication team to understand audiences, segment outreach, identify opportunities and challenges, and measure outcomes.
  • Manages freelance writers and graphic designers.
  • Leads the production of high-quality, actionable, and brand-aligned content for advertising, brochures, emails, fliers, newsletters, postcards, social media, and digital marketing.
  • Gathers and develops valuable, usable, digestible, actionable, shareable, and findable content designed to tell the Temple story.
  • Produces a broad range of content styles and types, with a strong emphasis on high-quality, effective marketing copy.
  • Generates ideas to tell stories in innovative and visually appealing ways.
  • Customizes content for various audiences, platforms, and purposes in conjunction with marketing and social media teams.
  • Contributes to and upholds the department’s editorial vision, and editorial plan, as well as the university’s brand, editorial standards and style.
  • Researches, writes, and fact-checks content.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field. At least to four years of related experience, preferably in higher education marketing. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Must have a firm grasp of grammar and content best practices, and be skilled, accomplished, and persuasive writer
  • Must have demonstrated copyediting and proofreading experience
  • Develops accurate, compelling content quickly when needed; juggles multiple priorities; follows production schedules and meets deadlines
  • Ability to pay thoughtful attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask efficiently and problem-solve creatively
  • Works successfully within a cross-functional, interdisciplinary, research-driven, and goal-focused environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisors and colleagues
  • Demonstrated proficiency with content management systems, tools, and platforms
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital media and its culture, trends, and best practices
  • Knowledge of advertising best practices

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote).
