Classification Title: CVB Sales Representative, E19

Location: 8200 Bryan Dairy Rd.

Schedule: The CVB is currently on a hybrid schedule that allows employees to work 3 days remotely and 2 days in office.

This position is responsible for assisting the Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) with development, implementation and oversight of digital content and for promoting the destination through media. The ideal candidate for this position is a self-learner with the ability to take information and create, edit and manage content and communication messages to visitors, tourism business partners, and media through website, social media, email marketing, and other platforms. This position will work with other CVB departments, CVB agency partners, and County departments to fulfill goals developed in the CVB Strategic Plan. In addition, this position will assist with development of the annual budget and work with local, national and international media outlets and journalists to promote the destination and grow the brand of the CVB. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Digital & Data Division Manager with considerable latitude for independent judgement and initiative. Evening and weekend work and occasional overnight travel as required to accomplish established goals.

Essential Job Functions

  • Gathers information from CVB departments and develops clear, professional, concise copy for industry updates and other newsletters for distribution to CVB partners, industry professionals and local businesses.
  • Establishes and monitors content calendar to deliver weekly website content for CVB website(s) and assists with content projects across all digital platforms.
  • Works with other CVB departments on website content needs that are specific to the meetings, sports and film industries.
  • Assists in the creation of high-quality travel marketing content for social media.
  • Works with visiting media and PR agency of record to secure national and international travel feature articles.
  • Uses keyword research and website analytics to help inform content creation.
  • Supports CVB department initiatives to include website management via a Content Management System (CMS), partner record management through a Customer Relationship Management system and newsletter products through our email system.
  • Creates SEO optimized copy for all video descriptions, titles and tags on CVB’s YouTube channels.
  • Assists in development of long and short-term content management plans and the annual department budget.
  • Listens to ideas of others and looks for the best outcome on behalf of all.
  • Performs related work as assigned or required.

Position Specific Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Four (4) years of technical and specialized tourism and hospitality industry experience implementing sales and marketing plans and programs within the tourism and travel industry; or
  • An Associate’s degree in marketing, hospitality, journalism, public relations, advertising, business administration, or related field and two (2) years of experience as described above; or
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field as indicated above; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

  • Florida Driver's License.
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
  • Basic experience and knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Customer Relationship Management Systems (CRM), and Content Management Systems (CMS).
  • Experience planning, drafting and editing press releases, digital content, and social media for brands and/or organizations.
  • Other knowledge, skills, abilities, and credentials required for a specific position.

Highly Desirable

  • 2 years of experience using Drupal or similar CMS.
  • 2 years of experience using web analytics systems.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge and familiarization with the St. Pete/Clearwater area.
  • Knowledge of destination marketing and ability to work in multiple database environments.
  • Knowledge of CRM, CMS and simple HTML commands.
  • Skill in working with online/electronic programs and software, including website management, desktop publishing, photo/image management, website analytics, social media and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Skill in search engine optimization (SEO).
  • Skill developing and producing content marketing strategy, including online video and social media.
  • Ability to assist and provide input on development of long- and short-term content management plans.
  • Ability to write and edit messaging for different audiences – which at times will lean informative and other times inspirational.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent organizational, analytical, problem solving and time management skills.
  • Ability to contribute to the online/technical innovation of the CVB.
  • Ability to zero in on critical activities while working on multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to carry out detailed tasks and projects with minimal direction or supervision.
  • Ability to shift priorities quickly and examine issues both strategically and tactically.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and work evenings, weekends and travel as required.

Physical/Mental Demands

The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

  • Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Visual ability: Sufficient to effectively operate office equipment including copier, computer, etc.; and to read and write reports, correspondence, instructions, etc.
  • Hearing ability: Sufficient to hold a conversation with other individuals both in person and over a telephone; and to hear recording on transcription device.
  • Speaking ability: Sufficient to communicate effectively with other individuals in person and over a telephone.
  • Mental acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Repetitive motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
