PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Signing Bonus: New employees are eligible for a $5,000 bonus; with $2,500 paid on the first payroll, and $2,500 paid upon completion of six (6) month introductory period from hire date.
Salary to be commensurate with experience.
The hiring range for this position is $30.58-$38.23
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Incumbents, as assigned, perform entry-level to journey-level inspections of Public Works infrastructure, residential and commercial exterior building inspections, and new development
  • infrastructure, for compliance with City standards and specifications.
  • Responsibilities may include:
  • Performing field tests
  • Preparing and maintaining reports
  • Responding to complaints received from the public
  • Maintaining databases and records
  • Photographing and cataloging conditions
  • Processing and managing work permits
  • Performs other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
  • At least one (1) year experience performing construction inspections of roadways and/or utilities for a public jurisdiction or consulting engineering firm.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of principles and practices related to the construction of streets, water lines, sewer lines, and other public infrastructure
  • City standards and specifications
  • Code enforcement techniques and principals
Abilities:
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors, and citizens
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations
  • Read and interpret project plans and drawings
  • Write and maintain detailed reports, logs, and payment records
  • Be able to pass the Public Works Senior Construction Inspector exam within six (6) months
Skills:
  • Skill in the interpretation of engineer's drawings, standards, and specifications
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES:
  • Colorado Driver's License with a good driving history
  • CDOT Concrete Transportation Construction Inspector certification, or ability to obtain within6 months.
  • CDOT Transportation Erosion Control Supervisor (TECS), or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • CAPA Asphalt Certifications (Lab CAT Level A and Asphalt Paving Materials Inspector) or NICET: asphalt, soils; or ability to obtain within 6 months

Physical Demands:
  • Moderate physical work which requires the ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds, with or without assistance
  • Frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Regular walking and standing
  • A full range of body movements including pushing, pulling, climbing and crawling
  • Foot/eye coordination to operate a motor vehicle
  • Vision to read plans, specifications and other information
  • Frequent hearing and speech communication with employees, contractors, and citizens
Work Environment:
  • Works indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and over all types of terrain with exposure to noise, dust, noise, traffic, and moving construction equipment
Equipment Used:
  • Uses standard office equipment including a personal computer, calculator, architectural and engineering scales, fax/copy machines, multi-line telephones, and zoning and code books.
  • This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
Essential Personnel:
  • When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
