Position Title: Computer Technician
Department: Technology
Reports To: Lead Technology Specialist
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY:
Assists the District to utilize computing technology (hardware and software) to increase
effectiveness, reduce costs, improve instruction and learning and improve use of professional and clerical time to the ultimate benefit of all educational programs. Assist the District in implementing and maintaining computer networks in schools and in the District offices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
- Troubleshoot problems related to desktop and laptop computers:
- Input devices-keyboards, mice, scanners, output devices-printers, speakers, monitors, internal/external hard drives, flash drives, malware disinfection and other performance issues.
- Test, image, install, and connect various computer types to a data network.
- Basic understanding of networking (routing, switching, and wireless networking).
- Installation and maintenance of operating systems, device drivers, and other school-related software.
- Basic troubleshooting of VoIP phones and devices.
- Frequently drive to different schools in the District.
- Create and maintain a District-wide inventory of computing hardware and peripherals, and licensed software used in the District.
- May be required to drive a company vehicle to perform certain job duties to any location within the District.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma. Working knowledge of personal computers and networks, PowerSchool and other software.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions
and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure
manuals. Ability to speak and present effectively before vendors, administration and staff.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and demonstrate problem solving strategies in addition to dealing
with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability
to communicate clearly and concisely. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district
requirements and the Board of Education policies. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge,

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The
employee is occasionally required to walk and reach with hands and arms and bend and twist at the
neck and trunk more than the average person. The employee must frequently drive to different schools
in the District. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 pounds. Specific vision abilities
required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision. Employee must be able to
distinguish the difference between bells, buzzers, beeps, etc. A valid SC Driver’s License and personal
vehicle are required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of

The noise level in the work environment may be quiet or noisy. The employee usually works inside and
may be required to work over 6 feet off the ground, in confined spaces and/or cramped body
positions. The employee must frequently work irregular or extended work hours and must meet
deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee is continuously interacting with the public and
staff.

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year.
Conditions of employment are adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school
year.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually according to Board Policy.
