We are seeking a Cloud Operations Specialist to join the Foundation in its mission of benefiting, supporting, and enhancing the California Community Colleges—the largest and most diverse system of higher education in the nation.
What You’ll Do
The Cloud Operations Specialist will play a pivotal role in the support, management and optimization of applications and services within the Technology team’s cloud hosting platforms (Azure and AWS, primarily). The Cloud Operations Specialist will work closely with several specialized software development partners to enhance the Reliability, Scalability, Performance, and Security posture across all cloud-based systems and services. This primarily includes management code pipelines as well as ensuring security standards and controls are implemented and maintained across all cloud systems managed by the Foundation's Technology team. As a strategic member of the Platform and Support Services team, the Cloud Operations Specialist will work closely with, train and mentor support specialists through incident management, root-cause analysis / resolution and develop thorough internal support guides.
What You Bring
● Work closely with the dev/engineering teams to audit, design, implement, and execute formal security standards and controls across existing and future cloud environments.
● Maintain secure environments in accordance with the established standards and guidelines.
● Maintain security compliance through system and application patching as required.
● Implement and maintain application and pipeline performance/health monitoring for cloud infrastructure-based solutions.
● Create, maintain, and share metrics and reporting data for management review and planning. Splunk integration experience is a plus.
● Implement and maintain standards for configuration management of cloud infrastructure services.
● Evaluate infrastructure and resource-utilization to develop effective cost-optimization and management strategy via automation of cloud centric tools.
● Revise existing solutions to modernize with the latest advances in cloud technologies to keep environments operating efficiently.
● Develop and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines using hosted cloud-based services in AWS and Azure.
● Implement and maintain container-based application services.
● Monitor maintenance and outages, assess impact, and develop strategies to minimize impact.
● Work as a technical lead with cross functional teams.
● Act as an escalation point for support specialists in troubleshooting complex workflows and resolving escalated production incidents.
● Mentor team members to evaluate and identify better ways to resolve issues and define updates to tools and processes.
● Participate in on-call rotation for incident management.
● Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to promote team growth.
● Self-directed and self-starter with the ability to work as a team member or on individual projects with limited supervision and guidance; ability to get along and work effectively with others.
● Knowledge of Agile project management methodologies and techniques (Scrum, Kanban, etc.), as well as others disciplines of project management
● Production support experience with incident/change management, and problem resolution.
● Experience working with the varied classes of cloud storage systems and supporting cloud platforms across Azure, AWS and GCP.
● Good understanding of cloud networking solutions (SDNs) provided by Amazon and Microsoft, including but not limited to connectivity, security, and redundancy.
● Experience with micro services and distributed architecture applications.
● Experience with CI/CD platforms, including BitBucket Pipelines and/or Jenkins.
● Atlassian products, including JIRA, Confluence, and Opsgenie.
● Proficiency with Python, Chef, Groovy, or equivalent scripting language.
● Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience with configuration management systems such as Saltstack, Chef, Puppet or Ansible
● Solid Understanding of SQL Server and Mongo databases.
● Experience with cybersecurity compliance frameworks; NIST SP 800-53. Familiarity of CAL-SECURE Strategic Pan a plus.
● Relevant BA/BS, equivalent work experience, or a combination of both.
● Minimum of five (5) + years of proven Cloud DevOps experience with specialization on developing, automating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for build and releases, preferably within Azure DevOps (VSTS). Experience automating repetitive tasks through PowerShell scripting, ANT, Make or similar build and deployment languages.
● Minimum of five (5) + years of proven configuration management experience in code management, code branching and merging, resolving merge conflicts, feature-flag code management and Git or GitHub administration.
● Minimum of three (3) + years of production support experience, with incident/change management, root-cause analysis, and problem resolution.

· Ability to work on a fast-paced team and build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
· Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, the California Community College system and the Foundation’s mission.
