The Social Services department at Mass General Hospital is seeking an experienced Clinical Social Worker to join the Pediatric Ambulatory Bowel Disease treatment team in the Boston campus. The MassGeneral Hospital for Children Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center provides care for children and adolescents with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD: ulcerative colitis, indeterminate colitis, and Crohn’s disease).

The social work candidate will join a multidisciplinary team to help pediatric patients and their families manage psychosocial aspects of living with IBD, ranging from family relationships to daily functioning concerns to emotional and mental health difficulties. The ideal social work candidate will have experience promoting key concepts of intersectionality and equitable treatment access to the medical team’s patient-centered approach to IBD care. The candidate would be responsible for integrating a child and/or adolescent’s social and psychological needs into a medical care plan. Providing short-term counseling and support to adjust to illness and grief are essential clinical component of this position. The clinical social worker would also provide crisis intervention to the patient while also assisting with communication between the family and the medical team. Serving as an advocate on behalf of the child and family on medical treatment as well as with additional collateral systems pertinent to the patient’s emotional and psychological well-being is essential.

The IBD team is looking for a dynamic, engaging, individual who would make a significant contribution to the IBD Center and this patient population. Excellent communication, organizational and documentation skills are essential for this position. Virtual and in-person clinical services are available to meet the individual patient’s needs.

Educational requirements:

The candidate must be licensed in MA as a clinical social worker, with a Master’s degree from an accredit school of social work.

LICSW preferred. LCSW with experience will be considered.
